Oshiomhole Appeals To Ovia People To Take Ownership Of PHC


...As Health Stakeholders Call On Community To Access Facilities

Edo State commissioner for Health, Dr Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, has appealed to the people living in Ovia North East Local government area to take full ownership of the primary healthcare centre in their community.

He made the statement when him and his entourage  visited the PHC Oghede building built by the governor of Edo state, Senator Monday Okpebholo supported by World Bank Impact project, Benin city.

Oshiomhole said ," we conducted a joint assessment visit to this facilities to evaluate service delivery, infrastructures, data management, staffing and patients patronage. We discovered that this place is under utilised.

" It is surprised to know that this PHC that has free antenatal , free malaria testing and treatment, yet people prefer to go to traditional birth attendants where the risk of acquiring HIV infection is very high."

He appealed to the people to fully take ownership of PHC so that the facilities will be utilised.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Andrew Iyamu, thanked the World Bank for the Impact project they have brought to Edo state from the federal government.

Dr. Andrew Iyamu, also extolled President Bola Tinubu, Senator Monday Okpebholo and the commissioner for Health, Dr Cyril Oshiomhole for the completion of the primary health care put together for the community.

He described it as a modern class primary health care centre and called for quick sensitisation of the people so that they can access the health care centre.

Senior Health Specialist World Bank, Dr. Onoriode Ezire, said the Impact Project is a federal government initiatives aimed to reduce under five mortality. 

Dr Ezire who is also the Task Team Impact Project leader, said the project is supporting Edo state to help upgrade and renovate their PHCs.

" In Edo state, we have identified 61 facilities, out of the 61 facilities 56 have been completed ready for commission. This is one of those commission and already in use.

" We are hoping that with this more people we have access to quality healthcare and receive the basic healthcare that they should receive at affordable rates. We been around since yesterday and we are very impressed with the quality of work we have seen," he added.

According to National Program Manager, Dr. Amina Abdul-One Muhammed, described the facilities as one of the best she has seen and said she impressed with the quality of work done in the PHC.

She called on the good people of the community to ensure they utilise the facilities very well.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Edo state, Dr. Paul thanked the World Bank for coming to strengthen the health sector of the government of Senator Monday Okpebholo.

He commended the governor for providing the enabling environment to build the PHC.

He said the work in the PHC is the best you can get in any where in Nigeria and called on the community to come and access health care in the facilities.

The Executive Secretary, Edo State Primary Healthcare, Dr. Coulson Osoikhia, said they are here on a tour to access the quality edifice built by Senator Monday Okpebholo in collaboration with the World Bank .

 Osoikhia said they have seen  that is a quality PHC and they have meant all the standard according to the world Bank. He said they going to follow up with the project.
