Edo NLA Boss Seeks For Financial Support From NUJ

...Extols The Union For His Great Achievements

The Edo state Chapter Chairman of the Nigerian Library Association (NLA), Dr.Tony Ikponmwosa Obaseki, has called for partnership and collaboration with the Edo state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists to enable them get more publicity.


Dr.Tony  Obaseki made the statements during a courtesy visit to the NUJ Secretariat in Benin city, congratulated the Union for the achievements under Dr. Festus Alenkhe leadership.


 
He said,"On behalf of our delegation, and the entire members of the Nigerian Library Association, Edo State Chapter, | express our sincere gratitude to you, for taking the time to receive us despite your demanding schedule. 

"Your warm reception reflects not only your high regard for Librarianship but also your deep understanding of the critical role Libraries plays in advancing education, research, and knowledge dissemination.

 "In a very complex, but dynamic highly socio-cultural and political space such as ours. Sir, we are here today for three key reasons: 


"First, to formally congratulate you on the numerous achievements and testaments that the Fourth Estate of the Realm has churned out ever since your election and re-election as the Edo state NUJ chairman. 

"We as co-stake holders in the information business can attest to your leadership zero tolerance stance against social ills such as cultism, illegal racketeering of goods, human and other commodities, injustice and oppression, decadence In public institutions such as in our schools and libraries etc.

" As well as your positive disposition towards upholding the rule of law, freedom of speech, promoting responsible journalism, as well as protecting information professionals welfare (that includes Librarians). 

"Your election, is well-deserved, as it is a testament to the confidence that our Information professionals including other relevant stakeholders, have in your capacity to harness and maximise the use of our egalitarian and progressive abundant human and material resources towards actualizing new heights in our ebullient Edo information ecosystem.

"These attributes of yours, we as Librarians have seen you displayed not only in your present position, but at numerous fora, we celebrate these milestones with you, and 
the entire membership of our Association within and outside Edo state, wishes you much more success in your tenure. 

"Secondly, is-to inform you that the Nigerian Library Association (NLA), the umbrella body of Librarians and Information Professionals in Nigeria, will be holding its 63rd National Conference and Annual General Meeting in Benin City from 6th to 11th, July 2025, at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub, Airport Road, Benin city." 

Responding, the NUJ chairman, Edo state, Dr. Festus Alenkhe advised them to protect their guests with adequate security before the end of the event and promised to support the association.

He also urged them to safeguard the event avenue with security personnel to avoid conflict and chaos during the 63rd National  conference in Benin city.
