Edo NUJ Advises Those Living In Flooding Areas To Relocate 

... Urges The State Govt To Be Proactive

Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has  advised those living in flood prone areas to be sensitive to the weather and prepare to relocate to safer areas, in view of upsurge of  flood in their areas of settlement.


The body made the statements through a communique issued at the end of monthly congress held in the Union premises, Benin city, Edo state, also urged the state government to be proactive and ensures it prepares for the rainy season to tackle the menace of flooding ravaging some state.


According to the chairman of the  communique committee , Festus Alenkhe, Andy Egbon and Charles Kiseh reads:"The Congress witnessed a large turnout of members from the 15 chapels, including the Deputy National President of the union, Comrade Abimbola Oyetunde. After an exhaustive discussion, it was resolved as follows:

"That the Congress commended Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo for the fight against cultism in the State and therefore sued for its sustenance. According to Congress, the anti-cultism fight will bring about sanity in the state. 

"The congress also urged the state government to be proactive and ensures it prepares for the rainy season to tackle the menace of flooding ravaging some states.

 "The congress also advised those living in flood prone areas to be sensitive to the weather and prepare to relocate to safer areas in view of likely upsurge of  flood in their areas of settlement.

"The Congress, while commending the State Government for the flyover project at Ramat Park in Ikpoba Hill, Benin City also appealed to the government to fix the alternative roads to address the serious gridlock occasioned by the construction work. 

" Congress also called on the state government to check the activities of some youth leaders (Okaigheles) who in the name of development collect huge levies from land developers in their communities.

" Such a collection, the Congress believes is  capable of discouraging developers from buying properties in the community, thereby undermining State government vision of spreading development in Edo state.

"The  Congress called on politicians to play politics according to the rules and refrain from playing politics of hatred and  bitterness, but Politics of Peace and Development. 

"The Congress congratulated the National body of the Nigeria Union  Of Journalists  for achieving the milestone of 70 years and wish all journalists across the country a result oriented anniversary."
