Edo APC Chairman Debunks Allegation Of Division In State

...Harps On 3.5 Million Votes To Tinubu Is Possible

Iduozee Efe Paul, Benin

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, has debunked the allegations that there is division among  the party members in Edo state.

He said the governor and the party believed in working with any body who want to become a member of the APC in order to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

Emperor Tenebe, made the statements during a media chat with selected journalists in Benin city said as far as the APC is concerned, all opposition parties in the State have collapsed.

According to him, he said before the end of week the party will receive all the local government area chairmen of the Labour Party into the its fold while discussion with 16 of the 18 LGA chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP is also on.

Tenebe stressed that the state's promised to deliver 3.5 million votes to President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election is a forgone conclusion, adding that with the way things are going in the state that figure is likely to be surpassed.

He buttressed that APC is presently the only party actively mobilising people for voter registration alongside INEC, and nothing will stop us from delivering those votes.

"We are very serious about the 3.5 million votes, and we can even surpass it. For example, I printed seven million Asiwaju caps, and as we speak, 2.7 million have already been distributed and it is only given to a registered member.

"By next week, we will receive all the Labour Party LGA chairmen into the APC and we have also held meetings with 16 PDP LGA chairmen who are defecting and if you look closely, you will see that the opposition has already collapsed in the State.

"We analysed the voter register and discovered that Edo State has about three million registered voters, many of whom are not currently living in the state.

"I have been travelling across the country to meet Edo people who registered at home, encouraging them to return during the election. We have also concluded plans with donors to provide logistics to bring them back.

"By that time, Edo Airline will also be operational, and arrangements will be made to fly people into the state. I am convinced we will achieve the 3.5 million votes. If I bring people registered in Edo from Kano and pay for their transportation, they will not come and vote against us. That is not vote-buying; it is logistics and mobilisation", he said.

Commenting on whether the APC is not bothered that the collapse of opposition parties into the APC could pose a threat to democracy, Tenebe said, "It is not the duty of the ruling party to protect the opposition.

"It is the responsibility of the opposition to be formidable and the constitution guarantees freedom of association. If anyone wants to associate with us, we will accept them. I am not bothered even if all political parties collapse into the APC. If all journalists and even INEC collapse into APC, I will be happy" he asserted.

The Edo State APC chairman also spoke on his relationship with senator Adams Oshomhole, saying that "anyone saying I have issues with Senator Oshiomhole is telling a lie from the pit of hell"

"There have been insinuations that Senator Adams Oshiomhole and I are not working together, and that is very far from the truth.

"The only point where we differed was during the primaries. I insisted that the right thing should be done, and once I push for what is right, I do not renege until the proper thing is done.

"However, we have all gone past that stage and after the primaries, we had the election, we campaigned together, we won together, and since then we have continued to work together.

"There are absolutely no cracks on the wall. I have been acting, and this will be my first term to be confirmed as the substantive chairman, having served under the caretaker arrangement.

"I also do not think the party will change a winning team. We started the fight to ensure that we had a good candidate and a good government in Edo State, and we achieved that.

"The next step is to support the government to succeed and as the party chairman, it is my responsibility to stand with the governor, defend him, and ensure that he delivers the dividends of democracy he promised the people" Tenebe stated.
