The third edition of the Kada Unity Cup burst into life with a thrilling harvest of goals and dazzling football action as the tournament kicked off on Tuesday at the Chief Lucky Igbinedion Sports Centre, Oti Resorts, Benin City.
Three high-energy matches lit up the opening day, with attacking football taking centre stage, in the presence of the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele.
The Kada Unity Cup, a football fiesta for military and paramilitary organisations, is sponsored by former Edo State Governor, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, and organised by the Edo State Football Association (ESFA) in collaboration with Kada Plaza.
In a statement issued by his Media Officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Enabulele praised the organisers and sponsor for sustaining the competition, describing the tournament as a strong platform for promoting unity, discipline, fitness and camaraderie among security agencies.
“The Kada Unity Cup has once again proven that sports remain a powerful tool for unity, cooperation and mutual respect among our military and paramilitary institutions. Beyond the goals and excitement, this competition is about building bonds, promoting fitness and strengthening teamwork among the men and women who safeguard our nation,” Enabulele said.
“We are delighted with the quality of football on display on the opening day. It reflects the growing commitment to sports development within our security agencies.”
He added, “The Edo State Sports Commission will continue to support initiatives like this that align with our vision of grassroots sports growth and inclusive participation. I commend Chief Lucky Igbinedion for his consistency and passion in sustaining the Kada Unity Cup, as well as the Edo State Football Association for its organisational excellence.”
“Competitions like the Kada Unity Cup complement government efforts in using sports to engage institutions positively and foster unity across Edo State. As the tournament progresses, we expect even higher levels of discipline, fair play and competitiveness, which are values central to both sports and national service,” he stated.
The opening ceremony was graced by the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, top government officials, and the leadership of the Edo State Football Association.
The ceremonial kickoff was jointly performed by Chief Lucky Igbinedion and the Deputy Governor, after which matches commenced simultaneously.

The second encounter saw Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) FC deliver a dominant performance, overwhelming Federal Fire Service (FFS) FC with a resounding 5–0 win.
The final match of the day provided keen competition as Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) FC edged Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) FC by a lone goal in a closely fought contest that kept spectators on their feet.
