NPFL26 MD25: BENDEL INSURANCE FC RETURN TO WINNING WAYS AFTER SPANKING ENYIMBA FC 2-0 IN BENIN
Bendel Insurance Football Club, weekend, defeated former CAF champions Enyimba Football Club of Aba 2-0 in the match day twenty-five of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) 2025/26 season.
Goals from Alex Oweilayefa and substitute Efe Ubiomo in the 26 and 79 minutes respectively gave Insurance FC the deserved victory as they returned to winning ways after experiencing some setbacks in their last three matches.
Recall Insurance FC were two goals ahead of Niger Tornadoes in the first half of their last away encounter, only for them to be forced to a 2-2 draw after a goalless stalemate at home against FC Barau and a 1-0 loss to Shooting Stars in the previous two matches.
The Benin Arsenals' 2-0 victory against the Peoples Elephants was not achieved without a serious challenge from the visiting team. The People's Elephant came all out at the resumption of the second half having been trailing 1-0. They dictated the pace after taking control of the midfield. The pressure on the defence of Insurance almost paid off in the 56th minute but Goalkeeper Emmanuel Ofori denied the visitors the chance for equalizer.
Insurance FC however managed to absorb the pressure and maintained composure until the host were able to turn things around again and took control after Coach Kennedy Boboye's tactical switch which followed the double substitution that introduced midfield maestro Nnamdi Anthony and the little young striker Efe Ubiomo who sealed the victory in the 79th minute with a fantastic strike from about 25 yards.
Before the kickoff,Bendel Insurance FC were 8th on the league table on 34 points while Enyimba FC were in 12th positions. Insurance FC have now moved to 6th position on 37 points.
Bendel Insurance FC have double away fixture against Bayelsa Utd and Nasarawa Utd in the match day 26 and 27 respectively.
In a post match press conference, coach Kennedy Boboye praised his players for their resilience. He however admitted that they lost concentration towards the end of the first half and expressed satisfaction with their ability to reorganize themselves and tamed the elephants of Aba.
He congratulated the scorer of Insurance second goal ,16 years old Efe Ubiomo who scored his debut goal for Insurance against the biggest club in Nigeria.
" We were lucky to escape dangers when we lost concentration towards the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half. They capitalized on the lapses in our midfield but they were unlucky to convert their chances.
On the next two away fixtures for Insurance, Coach Kennedy Boboye said Insurance FC do not have issues with away games.
" We will continue to push on and take every game as it comes. We do not have anything to worry about home or away matches. We play against any team anywhere as we play at home and sometimes do better away from home." He said.
.
On the other hand, Enyimba FC coach Deji Ayeni congratulated coach Kennedy Boboye and Bendel Insurance and described their Victory as a deserved one. It was a good game and after their first goal, I told my players to come all out in the second half and fight for a goal. We created the chances but we were unlucky to convert them. Insurance FC play aggressive football and difficult to deal with. I applied the same tactics that worked for us against Nasarawa Utd and it almost paid off.
