Residents of Benin City on Tuesday evening cheered enthusiastically as Governor Monday Okpebholo inspected the ongoing construction of the Temboga- Ekiuwa–UNIBEN Road (Temboga Road Extension) and Oba Erediauwa Road, off Upper Mission Road, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development across Edo State.
The Governor and his entourage were taken round the project site by the site engineer of Heartland Nigeria Limited, Engr. Obuh Ugochukwu, who briefed him on the level of work done and the progress achieved so far.
During the inspection, residents of the area trooped out in large numbers, expressing excitement over the pace and quality of the work.
Many were seen chanting solidarity slogans and pledging support for the Governor, describing the road project as a major relief to the community.
Speaking to journalists after the tour, Governor Okpebholo downplayed calls for a second term, insisting that his focus remains on delivering results.
He said, “It’s not about the second term; it’s about what we are doing. The focus is 2027 first. After 2027, we can now start talking about second term. Our 2.5 million votes for Mr president are guaranteed. You can see the demonstration of what we are doing here. Because of what we’re doing, the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President is manifesting in Edo. You can see it for yourself and people are seeing it. They are happy,”
The Governor added that the project holds personal significance for him.
He stated, "I’m happy because it’s my brainchild. Seeing it this way is giving me joy, and the people are happy. That is the most important thing to me because I’m here to serve people,”
One of the residents, Ms. Osadebameh Precious, expressed appreciation for the road project, noting that it has changed the perception of many in the community.
According to her, the visible progress of work has convinced residents of the Governor’s commitment to development, adding that the entire community is pleased with the transformation taking place in the area.
The Temboga- Ekiuwa–University of Benin (UNIBEN) Road project is expected to improve connectivity, ease traffic flow around Upper Mission and Ikpoba Hill Road, and enhance economic activities for residents and businesses in the axis.
The road will also serve as a shortcut to the Ugbowo area of Benin City, allowing motorists to bypass the city centre and significantly reduce travel time.
