Ex-Edo Rep Member, Agbonayinma Dumps APC, Accuses Oshiomhole
Iduozee Efe Paul, Benin
A former member of the House of Representatives in Edo State, Hon Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, on Wednesday dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC, citing undue interference from political leaders in the state, among others as his reasons.
Announcing his resignation from the party at his Benin residence, Agbonayinma lamented the party had been hijacked by some individuals, who appropriated the party to themselves.
While not disclosing the political party he would be joining, the lawmaker, who represented the Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency, said that he would be seeking a return to the lower chamber in the next National Assembly election.
Agbonayinma bemoaned a situation where other people, such as Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the senator representing Edo North Senatorial District and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a senatorial aspirant for Edo South Senatorial District, from other local government areas dictating what happened in his Ikpoba-Okha Ward 6.
Agbonayinma, who is seeking a return to the National Assembly, said he would soon announce the political party under which platform he would contest the next year’s general election.
He said his reasons for leaving the APC include lack of respect for his leadership of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government, the marginalisation of Edo South in political appointments among others.
The former member of the Code of Conduct Bureau said he could not continue to remain in an undemocratic party, especially when politicians who worked against the APC during the last elections, were now dictating what happened within the party.
“As a foundation member from the days of AC, ACN, ACD now APC. We worked diligently to build an all-inclusive democratic institution. It is therefore deeply distressing to witness the party in our dear constituency gradually becoming the property.
“After a careful evaluation of recent developments within the party (APC), and having observed a series of anti democratic tendencies and activities, I regret to inform you of my decision to resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect
In the letter dated April 1,2026 and addressed to the Ikpoba-Okha Ward 7 Chairman of the APC, the ex lawmaker said: “At this critical point in my political journey, and in alignment with my personal convictions, principles, and evolving vision for purposeful service come to the solemn conclusion that it is necessary to take this difficult but inevitable step.
“While I may be stepping away from the party, my respect for the institution and for the many sincere individuals within it remains unwavering. I remain committed, as always, to the service of the people, the strengthening of democracy, and the pursuit of a better future for Edo State and Nigeria.”
He bemoaned how Oshiomhole block him from emerging the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, and how Ize-Iyamu had to be the one to speak before the issue of candidacy in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, when Ize-Iyamu hails from Orhiomwon Local Government Area.
He stated that since the duo of Oshiomhole and Ize-Iyamu had decided to highjack the party, he would be leaving the APC for them as he could no longer operate under such a situation where he would be relegated.
Alertness.ng recalled that Agbonayinma represented Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal Constituency from 2015 to 2019, but was defeated by Hon Jude Ikponmwosa Ise-Idehen ( now deceased) of the People Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 general election.
