Tension As UK-Based Influencer Demands Apology From Don Pedro Obaseki
By Our Reporter
A UK-based Nigerian social media influencer, Osagie Aifuwa, has issued a two-week ultimatum to Nollywood filmmaker, Don Pedro Obaseki, demanding a public retraction and apology over comments he allegedly made following a recent reconciliation meeting in Benin City.
Osagie, in a press statement released on Tuesday, condemned what he described as “highly irresponsible and divisive remarks” reportedly made by Obaseki while addressing individuals who had previously assaulted him in December 2025.
The incident relates to an attack said to have occurred during a football game, allegedly led by Osaze Adun. Members of the group were later reported to have visited Obaseki’s residence to seek forgiveness.
According to accounts circulating on social media, Obaseki, after granting pardon, allegedly urged the group to refrain from violence against members of the Benin ethnic group but was also quoted as making remarks perceived to condone aggression against other ethnic groups, particularly Hausa and Igbo communities.
Osagie warned that, if accurately reported, the comments could inflame ethnic tensions and undermine national cohesion.
“If accurately reported, this statement is highly irresponsible, divisive, and capable of inciting ethnic violence,” he said.
He called on Obaseki to publicly withdraw the alleged remarks and tender an unreserved apology to the affected communities and Nigerians at large within 14 days.
Failure to comply, Osagie said, would leave him with no option but to initiate legal proceedings to ensure accountability.
The development comes amid heightened sensitivity around ethnic relations in Nigeria, where public figures are routinely urged to exercise restraint in their public statements.
As of press time, Obaseki had not issued an official response to the ultimatum.
