CRPP Threatens To Petition EFCC To Investigate  Govt  Okpebholo Projects

The Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has condemned governor Monday Okpebholo's over his undue interference and single-handedly picking candidates in the forthcoming primaries elections in Edo state APC, and urged him to let democracy breathe.




 The Coalition therefore blamed the regime of Governor Monday Okpebholo, rating its performance as below public expectation while raising concerns over transparency in key infrastructure projects in Edo State.

This follows a communiqué issued at the end of its second general meeting held in Benin City and signed by its National Chairman, Dr. Samson Isibor, the coalition said citizens of Edo state have shown “resilience and endurance” despite what it termed economic hardship and rising insecurity, particularly in Ekpoma, Edo Central.

According to Dr. Isibor, while comparing the present regime unfavourably with that of former governor Godwin Obaseki, stated that while it did not maintain any formal relationship with the previous government, its performance was “significantly better” than what is currently obtainable.

Commenting on governance and political tolerance, the coalition accused the administration of intolerance to opposition voices, citing alleged hostile remarks by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kassim Afegbua. It said such actions undermine democratic engagement and constructive criticism.


Speaking on the ongoing construction of two flyover bridges in Benin City, the CRPP raised questions regarding the procurement process and funding of the projects. It specifically queried the contract details for the Ramat Park flyover, including cost, bidding process, timeline, and the role of First Bank of Nigeria in the projects.

The coalition  criticised what it described as the government’s “media showcase” of the projects, referencing invitations extended to media personality Seun Okinbaloye and musician Eedris Abdulkareem for project inspections at public expense.

For equity and transparency, CRPP demanded full disclosure of the project details, stressing that Edo citizens have a right to know how public funds are being utilised. It warned that failure to provide answers could prompt it to petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate the projects.

The coalition equally challenged Governor Okpebholo’s reported ambition to deliver 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, describing the target as unrealistic and cautioning against any attempt to manipulate the electoral process.

The communiqué ended with a call for internal democracy within the ruling party, condemning alleged interference by the governor in candidate selection processes ahead of upcoming primaries. 


CRPP urged the administration to uphold democratic principles and allow fair political participation in the state.

The victims were said to be heading to Abuja in a newly launched Edo Line bus when armed men stopped the vehicle and forced them into the bush.
