The Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists notes with disgust a false and malicious publication by Standard Daily Press, an unknown online group alleging that Edo NUJ collected ₦100,000,000 from the Edo State Government before the Edo South Senatorial primaries.

Let it be said clearly: "This is a criminal lie," peddled by a non-journalist running a blackmail outfit.

1. The author is not a practicing journalist.
We have verified that the individual behind this publication is not a registered member of the NUJ, has no press accreditation, and does not operate within the ethics or standards of the journalism profession. What we are dealing with here is a quack, a political hatchet man hiding behind a blog to extort and defame. 

2. *The allegation is 100% false.*  
Edo NUJ did not collect, request, or discuss ₦100m or any amount from the Edo State Government. We challenge this impostor to produce proof. He cannot, because the story was manufactured in a backroom to settle political scores and extort silence.

3. *This is blackmail, not journalism.*  
Publishing lies to coerce, intimidate, and tarnish the image of a legitimate union is a criminal offense under the Cybercrimes Act and the Criminal Code. We will not dignify it with silence.

*OUR DEMANDS:*
1. Immediate retraction of the falsehood and an unreserved public apology published on all Standard Press platforms, platforms with the same prominence as the lie.
2. Full disclosure of the identity of the writer and the sponsors behind this publication.

*DEADLINE: 48 HOURS.*  

*FAILURE TO COMPLY:*  
We will immediately commence civil and criminal action for defamation, injurious falsehood, and cyberstalking. We will also petition the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, and the Nigeria Press Council to investigate and prosecute this quack for impersonating a journalist and engaging in criminal blackmail.

Edo NUJ will not allow impostors and political hirelings to soil the name of journalism and the sacrifices of real journalists. If you have evidence, bring it to court. If you don’t, prepare to meet us there.

The public should disregard this trash. Real journalists deal in facts, not fiction for hire. The National secretariat of the NUJ has been briefed of this development.

Gunmen Abducts 18 Passengers  In Benin-Auchi Highway, 16 Rescued Iduozee Efe Paul, Benin  Wonder they say shall not cease, as at least 18 passengers travelling on the Benin-Auchi highway in Edo State were abducted by gunmen on Friday, 5th 2025. The victims were said to be heading to Abuja in a newly launched Edo Line bus when armed men stopped the vehicle and forced them into the bush. Police operatives later arrived at the scene after the attack. A video from the incident, which has gone viral on social media, showed vehicles lined up on both sides of the highway as panic spread among commuters.
