Edo Police Arraign Three Over Alleged Conspiracy  By Editor  The Police have arraigned three persons before an Edo State High Court over alleged conspiracy, perjury and making false statements.   The defendants, Samuel Obasuyi, Godwin Obasuyi, and A.O. Obasuyi and Sons Sawmill Limited, were arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, perjury, defamation, and making false information. According to the charge marked Suit No. B/CD/210C/2025, the defendants allegedly conspired among themselves between August 2015 and 2018, to commit acts of defamation and make false accusations.   The prosecution  alleged that the accused persons conspired to have Senior Lawyer, Barrister Dele Edokpayi charged with offences relating to conspiracy and forgery of documents, despite allegedly knowing that he was innocent of the claims.   The consequence of the false information led to his being arrested by the police and investigated.   The charge al...

Children's Day: No Casualty Recorded From Ogbemudia Stadium Incident - Says CMD By Editor  The Chief Medical Director, Edo Specialist Hospital, Dr Anthonia Njoku, has clarified the social media reports alleging that five pupils died during the Children's Day celebration at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium. Njoku made the clarification on Thursday in Benin, while addressing newsmen. "Yesterday, we were called in for an emergency response and we responded swiftly and appropriately to some of the children which were evacuated by our ambulance to our facility. "Resuscitation measures started immediately and to God be the glory, we have no casualty, the children are all stable and we want to thank our governor for his continuous support", she said. Falana Cautions That Inconsistent Court Judgments Could Affect 2027 Polls By Editor  Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has warned that conflicting court judgments involving the Independent National Electoral Commission could threaten preparations for the 2027 general elections if not urgently resolved. In a statement titled “Nigerian Judges and Lawyers Should Be Prevented From Sabotaging the 2027 Election,” Falana said contradictory rulings from courts of coordinate jurisdiction risk creating confusion over electoral procedures and weakening public confidence in the judiciary and the democratic process.
