Edo Dep Governor Sends Journalists Out of Event
Iduozee Efe Paul, Benin
There was a mild drama on Thursday as an aide to Comrade Philip Shaibu, the Edo State Deputy Governor ordered journalists out of an event in the deputy Governor's private residence.
This is coming in the wake of the crisis sorrounding the deputy governor's ambition to succeed his principal, Mr Godwin Obaseki as Governor of the state.
The deputy governor's aide and his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Musa Ebomhiana has angrily sent some journalists away, citing a directive from his principal
Trouble started when some journalists were called by the CPS to the deputy governor's residence to cover an event involving members of the Catholic church community.
As some journalists working for various media organisations got the hint of the event, on arriving at the deputy governor's residence, they were subjected to screening at the entrance before being allowed into the premises.
Immediately the Chief Press Secretary noticed the presence of many journalists, he started making ucomplimentary remarks, shouting and telling journalists that they were not invited to cover the event
He said, "This assignment is not every journalist that I call. Why are all journalists from the Press Centre here. I invited a few people. This is one problem that you journalists have. I only called a few journalists."
Immediately, a former Secretary of the Edo State NUJ, Comrade Titus Ahkigbe cautioned the Musa to be civil in addressing journalists who are out to do their jobs.
Comrade Ahkigbe expressed disappointment and worry about the abusive manner and rudeness the CPS exhibited in addressing the journalists
Effort by another side of the deputy governor, Kingsley Ehigiamusoe to intervene proved abortive, as he tried unsuccessfully to plead and apologize to the aggrieved journalists on behalf of the deputy governor CSP.
