Reign of Terror: Obagie N' Evbuosa Begs Oba Ewuare II To Prevail On  Festus Edegbe

The elders of Obagie N'Evbuosa community in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State have called on the Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II to prevail on one Festus Ekenaye Edegbe who they said presently lay claim to the position of Okaighele of the community to unleash terror on the people.

The elders, in a letter to Oba Ewuare II dated September 22, 2023 said that Festus Edegbe, an indigene of the community has also disobeyed the Palace of the Oba by refusing to present himself for initiation into the Council of Elders in the community.

The letter was signed by 41 elders of the community, including the Community Head, (Odionwere), Pa Okungbowa Aiguobatile and second-in-Command, Pa IGB Igbinedion.

It was titled, "Appeal to Your Royal Majesty to aid Obagie N' Evbuosa Community arising from the attack from one Mr Festus Edegbe who parades himself as the Okaighele, against the will of the Enogie, Odionwwre, Elders and the people of Obagie N' Evbuosa Community."

The elders stated that Festus Edegbe forced himself on the people of the community, as Okaighele, a development which culminated in the destruction of vehicles and houses, as well as 'reign of terror,' with the arrest of several people in the community.

According to the letter, Edegbe single handedly sold over 1,000 plots of land in the community and converted the proceeds to personal gains and parading a forged document with reference No. BTC A 40/ vol LVI/150 dated April 20, 2023 which allegedly emanated from one Roland, a former sceptre bearer (Omuada) to Oba Ewuare II

Courtesy of a letter by one Osas Aigbedo dated September 1, 2023, the elders were said to have been invited to the Palace of the Oba where they were received by Chief Osaro Idah, the Obazelu of Benin Kingdom, with other Chiefs.

According to the letter, despite the directive of the Palace for Edegbe to step down as Okaighele and present himself for initiation into the Council of Elders, he has refused to present himself for the initiation process.
