Dubri Oil Community Economic Empowerment initiative has trained and empowered ten Indigenes from their various host communities in Edo state.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Chairman Board of Trustee, Dubri Oil Community Economic Empowerment initative, Alh. M. A. Abu, Esq, said since 2010, Dubri Oil has made it a point of duty, as part of its corporate social responsibility to undertake the skill acquisition training of selected individuals in the operational areas.
He made the statement at the 9th Batch award ceremony on the occasion of the 2023 Edition of the Empowerment of youths of the host communities of Dubri Oil operational areas in Benin city, Edo state.
He said," I am indeed pleased to welcome us all to this occasion put together by Dubri Oil for the 2023 edition of the economic empowerment of deserving youths of the company’s host and impact communities namely, Ugoton, Galegele, Ikpako and Oduna ward all in Ovia North East Local government area of Edo state.
" It is pertinent to recall that over the years, precisely since 2010. Dubri Oil has made it a point of duty as part of its corporate social responsibility to undertake the skill acquisition training of selected individuals in the operation areas mentioned above a well as empowering successful trainees by the provision of tools an equipment for their take off.
"As part of the process, the board of trustee selects the beneficiaries for the training programme after rigorous screening and interview as well on the monitoring of the trainees to ensure seriousness in their training. On those who are empowered, the Board also monitor them for a specific period to ensure that the equipment provided are put into judicious use.
"Over the years, deserving youths from the communities concerned have been trained in fashion design, hair dressing, auto mechanic, furniture making among others. In the course of training apprenticeship fee are paid and transport allowances are provided on monthly basis.
"On empowerment, relevant tools and equipment are provided for the beneficiaries, ranging from sewing Machines, electricity generators, and auto mechanic tool boxes among others.
"I am pleased to inform you that over one hundred and fifty indigenes of the communities concerned have been trained and empowered under this initiative, which has gulped a substantial sum of money provided by Dubri Oil.
" In recognition of the relevant provisions of the new Petroleum Industry Bill, Dubri Oil and the Board has restricted today’s event to only empowerment. The training aspect has been skipped.
"Ten persons will be empowered today in the area of auto mechanic, and fashion design. We are all witness to the various equipment displayed here and outside this hal! for this purpose. Let me at this point on behalf of the Board of Trustee congratulate the beneficiaries of this empowerment and to urge them to take full advantage of the opportunity that has come their way.
"It is hoped you the beneficiaries will follow the footsteps of your predessors who we learnt have taken full advantage of this gesture to establish and improve their lives.
"May I also take this opportunity to express appreciation to Dubri Oil for its commitment and effort over the years towards impacting positively on the lives of the youths in the area of coverage by the training and empowerment of selected indigenes of the host and impact communities.
" There is no doubt that the outstanding performance of the company has contributed in no small measure in the harmonious relationship between the company and the host, communities which has by extension guaranteed," he added.
In his speech, the Honourable member representing Ovia North East in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Uzamere urged the beneficiaries to make use of the items given to them.
Hon. Uzamere also thanked the Dubri Oil company for training the indigenes in the host communities. He said he is very delighted about Dubril Oil company for empowering the people.
Commissioner for Mining and Energy, in Edo state, Hon. Donatus Enaholo Ojiefoh, represented by Mr. Ofeimum Idemudia, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items given to them by the Dubri Oil company. He thanked Dubri Oil for coming out with this kind of iniative to empower the youths in the host communities.
Also speaking, the Director Dubri Oil company limited, Seweje Clement advised the beneficiaries to equally make judicious use of the items given to them including the #50,000 naira cash reward package to each of the beneficiaries to pay their one year rent.
He appealed to them not to allow the programme to die, and ensure they are serious with their work to make them self reliance in life.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Milton Peterson, said, they will make proper use of the items given to them.
He thanked Dubri Oil company for training and empowering them, and also commended everybody that graced the occasion.
