Edo NUJ Urges Members To Upgrade Their Academic Qualifications

   Edo Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has  urged its members to upgrade their academic qualifications to meet up with the NUJ constitution as ammended, and advised members of the Union to pay up their check off dues and professional fees, as at when due. 

The Union also resolved that with the 2024 Governorship election in Edo State in sight, journalists are to remain apolitical and be objective in their reportage by adhering to the ethics of the profession.



The Congress made the statement  in a Communique issued in October monthly  congress presided over by the Chairman of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Festus Alenkhe. 

The Congress was equally in attendance the former council chairman, Sir Roland Osakue, members of the State working committee and members drawn from the 15 chapels of the council.

According to the drafting Communiqué  members are; Comrade Festus Alenkhe, Edo NUJ Chairman, Andy Egbon, Edo NUJ Secretary, Francis Odupute 
Chairman, CDC, Joy Aghedo 
Secretary, CDC, Solomon  Obozunya
Member, CDC, Kadiri Christopher
Member, CDC, said the Congress expressed its  total support for the Edo NUJ Ember fair and press week,  coming up in December, 2023.


The Communique reads," the Congress resolved that, in line with the directive of the National Secretariat, all Journalists in Edo State who are political appointees and executive members of political parties must resign their membership of the union until the end of their service, after which they can return to the union.

" The Congress called on the Federal Government to commence a full-scale rehabilitation of all the federal roads linking Edo State, namely Benin-Sapele Road; Benin- Agbor Road; Benin- Auchi Road; and Benin-Akure Road.

" Congress appreciated the Edo State governor, HE Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for the coaster bus promised journalists in the State, and also commended Mrs Betsy Obaseki, the wife of the Governor, for the consistent hosting of the annual women football tournament.

"Congress expressed it's total support for the Edo NUJ Ember fair and press week,  coming up in December, 2023.The Edo NUJ Congress urged members of the Union to upgrade their academic qualifications to meet up with the NUJ constitution as ammended.
