Edo State Branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has elected a new executive that would pilot the affairs of the body for the next four years.

Speaking to the journalists after the swearing- in of the present exco, the National Branch Development Adviser who came to conduct and supervise the election, Chief  Emmanuel Nworie, described the election as transparent and peaceful.

Chief Nworie said," generally, Nigerian Red Cross election is always very peaceful as it is not a do or die affair, because we serve humanity, and nobody is being paid  for it. Whatever selfless service you are rendering ,there is no point in killing yourselves for constesting for an election.

" Election will always come and go, if you were in the hall ,you can see that all of them went  unopposed. Edo state election is very peaceful. " The immediate past chairman, Comrade Festus Alenkhe and his exco have done very well. But, there is always room for improvement.

" I expect the new executive committee to embark on membership drive. We don't have new members, most of the divisions are almost dead and moribund. "They need to make themselves more visible. When they make themselves visible, they become more attractive.

"They need to embark on advocacy visit and sensitization so that they can get new members because Red Cross is a continuous process," he posited.

In an exclusive interview with Comrade Festus Alenkhe after the election, he stated," Red Cross is a very peaceful organisation. We have a way of conducting our election without hatred , quarrel and fight. So, it is a family affair.

" I just finished an eight year  and one week as Chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross in Edo state. So, I am fulfilled and you could see the facilities we put on ground here. For me and exco to have ran the body for eight years and one week is something great. I want to thank God, my family and all members of the Red Cross for giving me the opportunity to serve them.

"All I can say is to call on the new chairman and the executive to try as much as possible to improve on what we have put on ground. We have done our best and we have left the stage. He should only just improve on what he meant on ground and develop more on it. I wish him and his team well," Alenkhe stressed.

In his remarks, the Edo State Chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) Dr. Monday Edogiawerie extolled the good leadership quality of his predecessor, Comrade Festus Alenkhe which he said are very visible.

He said,"The election was free and fair, and everything goes on well the way we expected it. I thank God for my predecessor. I also thank God the way we work together as a team. It really helped us, whereby I emerged as the chairman. I will sure continue with the good legacy Comrade Festus Alenkhe had left for us.

Commenting on how he intends to unite his members together, he said", we have been together right from time. And it is a simple thing for me because they know me and I know them. We are going to work cooperatively and in unity to foster ahead in order for us to achieve our aims.

" We are going to strengthen and reactivate Red Cross in the 18 local government Areas of Edo state. Those that their election is to be conducted, we would conduct it very fast. I have told the Divisional Officer that all those things should be done as a first assignment for us,"he added.
