Expert In Oil Gas Says 2% Of 36 Million Nigerians Households Use LPG

...Says It Guarantees Safe Clean Environment

A consultant with the Oil Sustainability Programme (OSP) under the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Brenda Onose Ataga, has asserted that out of the 36 million households in Nigeria, only two percent uses Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) in Nigeria.

Ataga's made the statement during a flag off of an awareness training programme on Oil For Sustainability held in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.

The Oil and Gas expert said that the awareness campaign has become imperative considering the immense benefits.

She added that, the use of clean cooking gas guarantees safe and clean environment because it minimizes the felling of trees.

She said with the awareness campaign, it is believed that the number of those using LPG in the country will increase astronomically while cost will be saved.

In his opening remark, Chairman, Senate Committee on Gas, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, said the initiative to promote the use of LPG as a clean cooking fuel through the Oil for Sustainability Programme, is commendable and aligns perfectly with the federal government's commitment to environmental stewardship and energy sustainability.

Senator Jarigbe, represented by Mr. Joseph Ulom stressed that the awareness programme holds immense potential to empower communities with the knowledge and resources needed to make informed choices for a cleaner, healthier future.

He said by advocating for the adoption of LPG, they are not only promoting sustainable energy practices but also contributing to improving air quality and enhancing public health.


"Your initiative to promote the use of LPG as a clean cooking fuel through the Oil for Sustainability Program is commendable and aligns perfectly with our commitment to environmental stewardship and energy sustainability. 

"The awareness training you are flagging off holds immense potential to empower communities with the knowledge and resources needed to make informed choices for a cleaner, healthier future. 


"By advocating for the adoption of LPG, you are not ~ only promoting sustainable energy practices but also contributing to improved air quality and enhanced public health," the Senator said.



On his part, Dr. Gasem Mohammed Falltah, from Saudi Arabia, said, the that the use of clean cooking gas is achievable in Nigeria.

He said the relationship between the two countries dated back in history stressed that both countries are still members of OPEC.
