Mathematics.
In her remarks, Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, disclosed that in this 21st century of learning that it is not easy to be a teacher, especially in the public schools.
Dr. Oviawe made the statements at Seplat JV Education Summit and Stem Graduation ceremony, with the theme:" Transforming the Education Workforce: A Critical Success Factor for Nation Building.
She asserted that in the last 7 years Edo state government led by Godwin Obaseki had focus on the reform and transformation of education in the state.
The commissioner of education equally thanked Seplat for donating a modern science laboratory to one of the public schools in the state, which she said had enhance the students learning.
Given his keynote address, Group Managing Director, NewGlobe, Dr. Akin-Olusoji Akinyele, posited that transforming the education workforce is not a luxury, but it is a necessity and we must
collectively address the issues of teacher shortages, inadequate training, and low morale
among others that paint a concerning picture for the future of the education workforce.
Dr. Akinyele disclosed that transforming the education workforce requires a holistic and collaborative approach and added that it is a
complex and multifaceted process that involves various stakeholders, strategic planning, and
sustained efforts.
He thanked governor Obaseki for transformed the state public education system by empowering over 15,000
teachers with digital teaching devices.
"There is compelling evidence that an education transformation which improves the quality of
education, will produce a more educated and skilled labour force as graduates enter the
workforce.
"Once the workforce is made up entirely of members who were themselves
products of the improved education system, their additional productivity will accelerate the
growth of GDP each year by 0.5% at the minimum.
" Education in itself is not a self-fulfilling prophecy. It rests significantly on the
shoulders of teachers who are the architects of the young minds of generations now and
more to come.
"Transforming the education workforce is therefore not a luxury, it is a necessity and we must
collectively address the issues of teacher shortages, inadequate training, and low morale
among others that paint a concerning picture for the future of the education workforce.
"Teachers need our support to fully harness their potential to build the nation.
If it is true that it takes “a village to raise a child.” - as that African proverb goes; then I must
add that the village must empower the village teacher to educate that child.
"Empowered teachers nurture creative, ethical leaders who strengthen society. They cultivate
a culture of innovation that births new technologies and solutions for national challenges.
"They impart knowledge and skills that improve health, reduce inequality, spur economic
growth and advance human rights.
Truly, transforming our education workforce lays the foundation for progress across all
sectors - from agriculture to infrastructure, energy, transportation, and beyond.
It is the tide that lifts all boats.
" We are all witnesses to the globally acclaimed EdoBEST Programme supported by
NewGlobe, which began in 2018, through which His Excellency Governor Obaseki has
