NWFL: Edo First Lady, Alli Salute Edo Queens On Super Six Qualification

... First Lady to receive victorious Edo Queens

As Edo Queens Football Club of Benin deservedly secured a place in the Super Six of the Nigeria Women Football Premier League today in Delta state,the First Lady of Edo state Mrs Betsy Obaseki has congratulated the victorious team and promised to receive them on their return to Benin tomorrow.

The  reception ceremony is scheduled for 2:00 PM at the Festival Hall in Government House,Benin City.

The Executive chairman, Edo state Sports Commission Olympian Yussuf Alli made the disclosure while expressing his joy over the success of the Edo state owned team.

He said that the news of Edo Queens superlative performance and qualification to the Women league's Super Six excites His Excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki and the wife Betsy Obaseki who have been very supportive besides sponsorship of the team.

" I am so happy that our girls made it against all odds. I have informed His Excellency the Governor and Her Excellency the wife of our Governor is so happy.Her Excellency wants to receive the victorious Edo Queens tomorrow by 2pm",Alli said while also congratulating the team.
" We are grateful to our Governor and his wife for their interest and commitment to sports development in Edo state. My joy is that our girls didn't disappoint us and they are coming back home with something to show for the huge resources Edo state government has committed to the team", Alli enthused. 

Edo Queens were forced to a 1-1 draw by the defending champions Delta Queens in a dramatic encounter at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba,Delta State and secured a place in the Super Six of the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership.

Edo Queens only needed a draw in the crucial match which went goalless until the 84th minute before Odoma Amarachi broke the deadlock, scoring a beautiful goal of security for Edo Queens. The celebration was however short-lived as the hosts drew level with a late equalizer,. The 1-1 draw was enough for them to qualify for the Super Six championship Playoffs 

Against all odds,Ede Queens finished the regular season with 23 points.to place second  behind Rivers Angels in Group B after seven wins, two draws, and five losses. 

With their qualification for the Super Six, Edo Queens are now contenders for the league title and a chance to get Continental ticket.
