Edo Police Arrest Suspect 41, Who Harvest Community Cassava

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 41 years old man identified as Smart Amos for unlawful possession of firearm and willful damage.



The suspect was arrested in the forest of Agowie in Orhionmwon local government area of Edo State.

The reports revealed that the suspect, and others now at large who came to the village from Benin City heavily armed went straight to the cassava farms in Agowie community linking Avbiugo where they harvested heavy tones of cassava.

More so, during the operation, one of the farmers who saw them raised alarm which drew the attention of the vigilante team drawn from Avbiugo, Evbowie and lguohan villages. The vigilante members then stormed the farm.


Luck ran against the thief, upon sighting the local security team, the suspects took to their heels, but unfortunately, the suspect, Smart Amos was not lucky as he was arrested while escaping in the forest.

Items found locally made single barrel gun was recovered from him. The suspect narrate his level of involvement. He said the arms was made to prevent the farmers from attacking them during the cassava stealing spree. 

Edo State Commissioner of Police,  CP. Funsho Adegboye had recently warned against unlawful possession of firearms and promised that the police will ensure people of the state sleep with their two eyes closed. 


The suspect Smart Amos is expected to be charged to court soon.
