Edo state Police Command has paraded 15 suspects who Involved in various crimes ranging from kidnapping, cultism, unlawful possession of fire arms and other criminal activities in the state.
The CP made the statements when he briefed the journalists in Police Command in Benin city, Edo state, appealed to members of the public to give useful information to the police that will lead to the arrest of criminals.
Speaking on how the suspects were arrested, Funsho Adegboye, the commissioner of police, said:" on 09/06/2024 at about 2040hrs, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Uromi Division, Edo State received a credible intelligence from one Daniel Ibhahebhomen, ‘m’ a Sector 1 Commander of Edo State Security Network, Uromi that one Asene Ogah, ‘m’ an ex-convict was invited by Hope Oboh Odianosen, Ikekhua Ehiamen.
" Others who are members of a criminal gang of kidnappers to join them in kidnapping operations. The operatives swung into action and arrested the suspects in different locations of Uromi town of Edo State namely; Idumukhala’s quarters, Uromi, Awo Uromi, Ugboha/Ugboha bush and Egbele, Uromi."
He asserted that the suspects are; Hope Ibhazukor ex-convict, Oboh Odianosen, ex-convict,Ikekhua Ehiamen ex-convict, Juju priest, Kenneth Christopher ex-convict, Saturday Patrick ex-convict, Eric Itoha ex-convict, Emeka Ojon, ex-convict, Charity Opkboh ex-convict.
Items recovered from the suspects include: One double barrel gun, One Dane gun, Six (6) rounds of live cartridges, One Box containing charms and Two (2) toy pistols.
In another development, the CP said the police also arrested some suspects, " on 08/06/2024 at about 0915hrs the operatives of Uromi Division, Edo State led by the DPO while carrying out bush combing operation, sighted some kidnappers at Amedokhian- Ugboha road behind Federal Polytechnic Uromi, Edo State.
" who engaged the Police on gun duel and in the process, one of the kidnappers was brought down due to the superior fire power of the Police and one Ak 47 rifle with 9 rounds of live ammunition was recovered from him and his corpse deposited at St. Chameleons Hospital, Uromi .
Commenting on how the force arrested some cult members and recovered some arms and iterms, the CP narrated:" On 02/06/2024 at about 1145hrs, operatives of Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit, Edo North Annex office received credible intelligence, that members of black Axe secret cult a.k.a Aiye, were sighted having a clandestine meeting in a house at Aviele, Auchi, Edo State.
" Brandishing firearms, for reprisal attacks on rival secret cult members. Immediately, the operatives in collaboration with vigilantes group swung into action, arrested two of the suspects namely; Iria Nicholas ‘m’ and Oba Friday, ‘m’ recovered the following items;
One Ak 47 rifle with double magazine, Fifteen (15) rounds of live ammunition, One pump action gun, two (2) locally made pistols, two (2) double barrel cut-to-size guns, three (3) battle Axes, nineteen live cartridges and other exhibits.
Funsho Adegboye, said the suspects made useful statements and confessed to being members of Aiye secret cult confraternity, that they will soon be charge to court.
He further stressed: "On 01/06/2024 at about 1900hrs, operatives of Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit, Edo North Annex office in collaboration with Vigilantes group and Hunters.
" While conducting stop and search duty at Ubiane Quarters in Avielle community; Auchi intercepted one Toyota Camry Car Reg. No. KWL539CZ with four male occupants, during profiling, the driver and two others took to their heels leaving behind one Miracle Woruka ‘m’.
"This prompted searching of the vehicle by the operatives which led to the recovery of one pump action gun, loaded with eight rounds of live cartridges. The suspect will soon be charge to court."
On the aspect of conspiracy, murder and arrest of suspect, CP Adegboye said,"On 29/04/2024 at about 0100hrs, one Samuel Aigbedion Osagie ‘m’, a member of Edo State Security Network was murdered at Oza Street, off Sokponba Road, Benin City and the incident was captured by a CCTV Camera which exposed the real identity of the perpetrators.
" On 08/06/2024 the operatives of Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit while conducting investigation using technical intelligence arrested the prime suspect one Akpasa Ustin Iniosa, a.k.a prada along Akpakpava Road, Benin City and during interrogation.
" He confessed to the crime and has since been helping the Police in investigation. Items recovered from the suspect are; Seven Lar ammunition, one live cartridge, One Blue Berrette, one Tecno Phone, One first bank ATM Card and the suspect will soon be charge to court.
" On 08/06/2024 at about 0100hrs, operatives of Adesuwa Division, Benin City, while conducting stop and search duty along country home Road, off Sapele Road, Benin City intercepted a Lexus RX 330 jeep Reg. No. YAB891DP with two occupants namely; Omoregbe Prosper ‘m’ age 35 years old and Emmanuel Osayande ‘m’ 34 years old who confessed to being an active members of Aiye secret cult confraternity.
" The case was transferred to Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit.The operatives of the unit while using technical intelligence arrested one Osahenrumwen Aigbedion ‘m’ 36 years old who made statements and confessed to the crime. They will soon be charge to court," he added.
When interview one of the female suspects denied her involvement in the crime.
She said," my names is Charity Opkboh, police arrested my husband, on my way to give my husband food I was arrested. They said I am the wife of kidnapper, that is how I was arrested.
" The police arrested me and my husband in party and they started beating us. I don't know anything about kidnapping.
