102nd International Day of Cooperatives, 2024: DG Extols Obaseki For Transforming Civil Service

The Deputy Governor of Edo state, Engr. Godwins Marvellous Omobayo, has asserted that Edo state government had done well by transformed the civil and public service in the state.

Engr. Omobayo represented by Dr. Austin  Otas made the statements during the celebration of the 102nd International Day of Cooperatives, 2024, with the theme," Cooperatives Build A Better Future," Benin city, said Obaseki has done everything possible to ensure the civil and public service is taking to a greater height.

"Governor is one man that has done very well in Edo state. That is why the governor shall end and finish very well. And by extension the governor had made the working environments conducive for workers in various sectors.



"Every 26th of every month, workers had received their salary. The governor is a compassionate and governor and he has a large heart. He has done everything possible to ensure the civil and public service is taking to a greater height," he added.

In his speech , the commissioner, Ministry of Business, Trade and Cooperative, Mr. Patrick Iria Uanseru, said the International Day of Cooperatives provides a platform to discuss the ongoing role of cooperative societies in building a better world.

 Patrick Iria Uanseru, said by partaking you can help to ensure a future where cooperatives contribute to a more prosperous and inclusive society.

He said,"This celebration is to align with government sustainable and developmental goals. A lot has been done under Godwin Obaseki government to enhance the smooth and seamless running of Cooperatives, especially in the area of digitalization.

" You can see now in Edo state cooperatives can easily be register online and get their certificates without delay. Expressly you can say, as we are finishing well and strong. Cooperatives are been left in a legacy of been in a very save and sound footage."


Delivering his keynote address, Dr. Godwin Ehigiamusoe, Chairman Lapo Group. Represented by Dr. Kenneth Okakwu, said co-operatives are democratic organizations controlled by their members, who actively participate in setting their policies and making decisions.


 Dr. Ehigiamusoe said a cooperative society is an economic association of persons with limited means  who pool their resources together. 


He said," the farmers’ cooperative societies and unions; produce marketing cooperative unions and the cooperative thrift and credit societies assisted rural dwellers to create wealth; gave their children quality education and supported the government through the marketing board to finance laudable initiatives such as the free education."

In an interview with Mr. Sylvester Adudu, President, Edo Central Cooperative Union and President, Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society, and Ahaji Mohammed Sedenu, President, Edo North Cooperative Union and First Vice President, Edo Cooperative Federation, they .described the cooperative activities as a laudable event.

They said the road walk and the panel discussion gave them more overview on how to benefit from cooperative society.
