... Sets Feb 2025 Congress Date
The Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Edo State, Rt. Hon. Elizabeth Ativie, has dissolved the party’s executive committees across the 18 local government areas and wards following the expiration of their tenure.
Speaking at a meeting of LP members held at the party's State Secretariat on Ogbelaka street in Benin City, Hon Ativie announced that newly inaugurated interim executive committees, alongside the State Working Committee, will oversee party affairs until the party's congress in February 2025, where new executives will be elected.
Rt. Hon Ativie, while inaugurating the Oredo Local Government Area executive committee, revealed that the party leadership will commence visits to all local government areas within the next two weeks to inaugurate their respective executives.
She noted that the process would kick off with Ovia North East, Ikpoba Okha, and Egor local government areas on Thursday.
Rt. Hon Ativie emphasized that the inauguration exercise follows the directive of the National Working Committee (NWC) headed by Barrister Julius Abure, which mandates the establishment of vibrant local government executive committees of the Labour Party to strengthen the party’s structure at the grassroots level.
She also highlighted the party's target of achieving Two million registered members nationwide ahead of the February congress, underscoring the importance of robust membership engagement.
According to her, the party's congresses will commence at the ward level in February 2025, progress to the local government level in March, and culminate at the state level in August 2025.
“These congresses will be critical as we position our party for growth and success ahead of the 2027 general elections,” Hon. Ativie stated.
