For her outstanding service to the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the immediate past Vice Chairman, Imelda Ilenwotse Osayande has been honoured by the union.

The award ceremony took place during the Edo NUJ Christmas Carol, Musical Extravaganza and Awards Night recently in Benin.

Osayande's remarkable journey began in Etsako West Local Government Area, Edo State, where she was born into the family of Mr. Daniel Elogie and Mrs. Catherine Elogie.

She excelled academically, attending Omogbai Primary School, Jattu; St. Angela's Girls Grammar School, Uzairue; and Ogbona Mixed Secondary School.

Osayande of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) bagged a degree in English from Lagos State University and later pursued a Master's degree in Communication Management at Delta State University.

She said: "I can boldly say that throughout my career as a journalist, I have demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities as a unionist, first serving as treasurer of the Correspondents' Chapel, then chairperson of the Nigeria Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Edo State Council, and Vice Chairman of Edo NUJ."

On the two occasions when she contested election for the position of vice chairmanship of Edo NUJ, she ran unchallenged, earning her the nickname "Unopposed."

The award presentation, led by Comrade Festus Alenkhe, Chairman of the Edo NUJ, recognized the journalist's remarkable achievements, including her nomination to represent Edo State NAWOJ at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, in 2009, an achievement which remains unparalleled to date.

With a strong commitment to maintaining peace and resolving conflicts, Osayande is a shining example of dedication, leadership and service.

There is no iota of doubt that her contributions to the NUJ and the journalism profession as a whole are truly commendable.
