The awareness campaign and road show which mark the World Aids day, with the theme:" Take the Right Path; My Health, My Right," aimed to prevent people for contacting the disease.
Speaking on the essence of the awareness campaign, the Medical Director, Rahi Medical hospital, Dr. Chris Ekiyor, said their focus is to take HIV reduction to another level .
He said the focus is to let the people know how to leave a safety life, and how to protect themselves when having sex with their partners.
Dr. Ekiyor posited that, the campaign is a continuous process that in this 2024, they have carried out four medical outreaches and screening were done for people in volunteering manner.
Dr. Ekiyor said," we are testing people to know their status, learning how to leave safe and preventive measures . Also having confidence if peradventure you are positive it is not the end of life. There is opportunity to leave a normal life and stop the disease.
" So, the NDDC is the one driving this process in the last four weeks and Rahi Medical hospital is a partner. We have been doing it with them in several areas such as; fight against malaria. But, today focus is to drive the campaign of HIV reduction to another level."
Given his advice on what is going on in medical spaces, Dr. Ekiyor asserted," we worked in medical spaces, and we had seen cases. People who are being presented to the clinic with stigmatised and synonyms with full blown cases that have been manage here.
" We seen people who have died before they were rush to the clinic and we seen people who are in denial. This is why this type of campaign is important. People should know that denial does not solve any problem.
" Even if you are positive is not the end of the world. You can leave meaningful life, have children who would not have HIV we you well counsel and programme to have them. We have been in medical practice for a long time, and we have seen cases.
" We seen people who came to hospital for advance stage and they have lost their lives. So the focus of this one is prevention, early identification and safe relationship. If you have this in your then you will be able to leave a normal life that every person is leaving.
" For those who are already positive if they well educated, they will know that they supposed to join the campaign to break the circle. So that they will not continue to spread the disease. We also provide the opportunity to share flyers during the road show.
" A lot of people are inform, they just hear HIV and take it for granted , but we intend to drive the message home with the market language with Pigin English, but when possible we speak Edo language for people to understand.
" We choose areas that are spotlight for social activities. A lot of people are involved in social activities such as; Limit road, Adesuwa and Country Home and other areas. There is need for this choice of areas. Some of then maybe vulnerable not just through sexual transmission but even by the use of drugs and chips."
