Edo Tribunal: APC's Fears Amplified As PDP's Documentary Evidence Gains Traction
By Gidigba Group
The Electoral Tribunal sitting in Benin City witnessed a significant turn of events on Friday, where the All Progressive Congress Party, APC, struggled to come to terms with the admission of critical documentary evidence presented by the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and its governorship candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.
The PDP had petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and the APC, alleging manipulation of the September 21 gubernatorial election.
Despite the APC's dismissal of these claims as baseless, the tribunal's decision to admit the evidence has dealt a significant blow to the party's confidence.
The admitted evidence includes 1004 documentary proofs, comprising Certified True Copies CTC of INEC declaration of results forms EC8A-E and LGA summary of results used in the conduct of the September 21, 2024 Governorship Election in Edo State.
Lead Counsel to the petitioner, Ken Mozia SAN, successfully moved the motion for application, validating the submission.
Counsels to the respondents, including Kanu Agabi SAN, Onyechi Ikpeazu, and VC Dewigwe, raised objections to the tendering of the documents, but the Court ultimately ruled in favor of the petitioners.
This development has significant implications for the APC, which had initially described the PDP's legal challenge as "sacrilegious".
As the tribunal continues to hear the petition, the APC's anxieties over alleged electoral malpractices are escalating, fueled by the possibility of being held accountable.
This looming threat has seemingly unraveled the APC, triggering a series of erratic outbursts, including reports of violent clashes and the recent invasion of the PDP Secretariat.
The APC's behavior is increasingly viewed as a desperate attempt to deflect attention from the tribunal's proceedings, which may ultimately expose the party's involvement in electoral irregularities.
