NPFL25:  Bendel Insurance FC Secures 2-2 Draw With Rivers United

Bendel Insurance Football Club, Thursday began the second round of the 2025 Nigeria Premier Football League(NPFL) in a brilliant fashion as they were forced to a  2-2 draw by former league champions Rivers United in the match  day 21 game at the  Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium,Port Harcourt.

The Benin Arsenals showed class and determination from the kickoff to the end as the  captain Meyinwa Oritseweyinmi shocked the hosts with a brilliant strike in the 6th minute of the game. Meyinwa was well positioned and received Michael Enaruna's intercepted cross from the left flank by Rivers Utd defender and cleverly slapped the ball against the roof of the post to give Insurance a deserved early lead.

The coach Greg Ikhenoba managed Bendel Insurance remained confident and determined in absorbing the pressure from the home team until in the 34th minute when former Akwa Utd captain Friday Obong fired a shot from about 25 yards that breezed past young Insurance goalkeeper Joshua Baba to level up for Rivers Utd.

Both sides went into the changing room with a goal each in the breathtaking first half of the encounter.

On the resumption of the second half, Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi,Nnamdi Anthony and Kayode continued to express themselves with the ball and just before the hosts could settle down Julius Emiloju's brilliant cross from the left flank found Uche Collins who did not waste time before jabbing the ball into the net  to restore the lead  for Insurance in the 49th minute of play.

Handsome Surveyor was indeed Rivers United's saviour when he took  advantage of a poorly cleared ball resulting from a corner kick
in Insurance area and tapped it in to secure a hard earned 2-2 draw for the Pride of Rivers in the 51st minute.

Bendel Insurance FC were unlucky to grab their second away victory against Rivers Utd as Oke Kayode's late goal from  beautiful combine passes between newly acquired Vincent Akpikpi and Austin Ogunye was ruled offside in the 90+3 minutes.

The Benin Arsenals are currently in the 17th position in the table and have an outstanding game(MD20) with Enyimba FC. They will be hosting Katsina Utd on the match day 22 fixture on Monday, February 3,2025 in Benin.
