By Editor
Bendel Insurance Football Club on Thursday began the defense of their Edo FA Cup title beating Restoration FC 2-1 in a second round match played at the Crescent Club mini stadium in Benin.
Second half goals from Osahon Osobo and Chinedu Onyejiekwe helped the Benin Arsenals in overpowering the stubborn Benin based amateur side who stunned the NPFL side in the 14th minute of the game.
Former Sunshine Stars midfielder Osahon cancelled Restoration FC first half goal in the 68th minute time. The Benin Arsenals had to dig deep in the second half of the game against the amateur side before Chinedu Onyejiekwe got the winning goal five minutes to the final whistle, with coach Greg Ikhenoba changing his tactical approach when it became difficult for his second string side to get the desired result. He had rested his first 11 that featured against Enyimba FC less than 12 hours before the Edo FA cup tie.
Meanwhile,it is going to be a family affair on Friday morning as Bendel Insurance will be facing their Feeders team in the first quarter finals game at the same Crescent Club. Kick off time is 9:00 AM.
Insurance Feeders on Monday defeated St.Andrews Foundation FC 2-1 in the second round of the 2025 Edo FA Cup tournament and progressed to the Quarters stage of the tournament.
Miracle Oshodin scored twice in the game played at the Crescent club field to give the young Insurers a deserved win.
Bendel Insurance Feeders were unlucky to face their senior brothers who eventually stopped them from progressing to the last four last season and they are meeting again at the same stage this season
