Seplat Energy Says Over 110,000 Nigerians Benefit From Free Eye Care

A total of 110,634 people have benefitted from Seplat Energy JV’s “Eye Can See” programme since its launch in 2012, offering free eye care services across its host communities.
The programme, part of Seplat Energy’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, provides free consultations, reading glasses, cataract surgeries, and health education on eye-related and general health conditions like glaucoma, hypertension, and diabetes.
Speaking at the 13th edition of the programme held at the Oba of Benin’s Palace in Benin City, Seplat Energy’s Director of External Affairs and Social Performance, Chioma Afe, represented by Esther Icha, stressed the initiative’s sustained success through the cooperation of Joint Venture partners.
Icha said,"Every service in this programme is completely free. For those with other health issues such as hypertension and diabetes, we have doctors available to provide care."
Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, Edo State Commissioner for Health, represented by Dr. Edward Aisowieren, extolled the idea, described it as a transformative effort that is helping reduce preventable blindness.
He said,“I’ve seen firsthand the success of this programme. Many people who were blind can now see, and that’s a remarkable achievement."
The Obakhavbaye of Benin, Chief Raphael Oronsaye, who represented the Oba of Benin, praised Seplat Energy for its humanitarian commitment and encouraged locals to take full merited of such corporate interventions.
Also, representatives of NNPC Exploration & Production Limited (NEPL), led by Owunari Tomikeimieye, also praised the community turnout and emphasized the importance of protecting oil and gas assets, which fund initiatives like “Eye Can See.”
Some of the beneficiaries, Odion Iyamu, thank Seplat JV, saying the programme had restored his sight and improved his quality of life. “Before now, I struggled to work and live normally. Today, I can see clearly again, thanks to Seplat,” he said.
The “Eye Can See” programme continues to serve as a shining example of impactful corporate social responsibility, bringing critical healthcare to underserved localities.
For Mr. Oliha Osahon, resided in Oredo said Seplat energy had tried by providing free eye screening for Edo people.
Osahon's said for Seplat to bring the free eye screening to their door step, it shows they care for the people." We are very happy, they tested me of my BP, Sugar level, and my weight. I thank them very well."
Also, Stella Igbe, Seplat energy tested her of sugar level, check my eyes and gave me drugs that I will take. I thank them for caring for me.
" I am very happy that Seplat energy tested me and gave me free eyeglass. So, they tried. It would make me to know about my body," Rosemary Igunma said.
