Uganda Pastor murders His Wife In Church During Sunday Service

Wonder shall never cease as tragedy occurred on Sunday morning at New Life Gospel Ministries in Jinja, Eastern Uganda.

The entire nation has been shocked by the horrific tragedy that churchgoers witnessed instead of the prayer and worship they had expected.

Police said 56-year-old Pastor Peter Okello showed up at the church wearing his typical religious garb, just as he normally did. Nobody was aware that he had two deadly blades concealed behind his robes.

Everything appeared normal at first. Without displaying any symptoms of agitation or concern, Pastor Okello sat quietly in the front of the church. Then abruptly, without a word, he got up and approached his wife, Pastor Grace Okello, who was also one of the church’s co-founders.

To the surprise of everyone, Pastor Okello brandished the knives and attacked his wife in front of the congregation. Worshippers fled in all directions, shouted out, and screamed. Grace was repeatedly stabbed at the altar.

She died instantly, even though some people hurried to her aid, but it was too late. Shortly afterward, Peter slashed his own throat with the knife and passed away.

The church was built by the couple, who had been married for more than 20 years. However, according to the police, there have been continuous disputes between them, primarily over land ownership and leadership positions in the church. Pastor Okello is thought to have scribbled a note at the scene accusing his wife of treachery. It read, “Today would be the last day of her lies.”

As police continue their investigation, both remains were sent to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examinations. While forensic specialists collect additional evidence, the church has been closed.

This horrific event has shocked a lot of Ugandans. Important discussions about domestic abuse have also been triggered by it, particularly between couples and religious leaders. Jinja’s religious leaders have harshly denounced the behavior and are advising couples who are having relationship issues to get help instead of resorting to violence.

The day their church was turned into a crime scene will always be remembered by the members of New Life Gospel Ministries as the day that was supposed to be a holy Sunday service.

This tragedy serves as a reminder of the value of conflict resolution, open communication in relationships, and mental health support. Untreated pain, rage, and misunderstanding can have fatal consequences.
