Sultan Of Sokoto Laments Incessant Corruption In Nigeria’s Judiciary

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has lamented about the integrity of the judicial system in Nigeria that it is being undermined by corruption and inequality, saying “today, justice is increasingly becoming a purchasable commodity.”
He said: “the poor are becoming victims of this kind of justice, while the rich commit all manner of crimes and walk the streets scot-free.”
He spoke on Sunday as chairman of the opening ceremony of the ongoing Annual General National conference of the Nigeria Bar Association NBA taking place in Enugu.
He urged the participants to ensure the implementation of their communique that will be issued at the end of the programme.
The revered Monarch, however, commended the NBA for choosing the theme “Stand Out and Stand Tall”, saying it aligns with the urgent need for lawyers to deliver on their professional mandate.
In his keynote address, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, of South Africa declared that Nigeria stood firmly by South Africa during its darkest hours while fighting for liberation.
His words “Nigeria is not just another African country to us, it is a comrade nation, one that stood firmly by our side during our darkest hours, when our people were being murdered, imprisoned, denied basic humanities, Nigeria rose as a giant of justice.
“People paid directly from their salaries to support the liberation of our South African people, we cannot forget those who stood by us during difficult times ” he stated .
He noted that Nigeria boycotted the 1976 Olympic games to protest against apartheid, adding that Nigerian students also made sacrifices to support the liberation of his people.
Going down memory lane, the human rights activist noted that when Former President of their country, Nelson Mandela was released from prison, he visited Lagos and Abuja to thank Nigeria for its contributions.
He emphasized that the historic bond between Nigeria and South Africa must be sustained.
The EFF boss, also stressed the need for Nigeria and South Africa to synergize economically, and expressed sadness over the exploitation of Africa”s raw materials and later sold to them at high cost.
In his remarks, President of the NBA, Afam Osuigwe stressed the need for the participants to rise above the ordinary and the need to make difficult decisions for the betterment of Nigeria.
