Enabulele Extols Edo KungFu Team For Championship Victory
The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, on Tuesday received Team Edo KungFu athletes and officials, led by the Chairman of the Edo State KungFu Association, Mr. Osayi Courage Osamuyi, following their outstanding performance at the maiden National Hauxing Wushu KungFu Championship.
Mr. Osayi said the delegation visited to formally present the championship trophy and update the Commission on the association’s activities.
“We have greatly contributed to Team Edo’s overall success, so we found it proper to meet with your board and discuss key issues. Most importantly, we came to present one of the trophies won,” he said.
He noted that KungFu continues to grow in Edo State, with athletes participating in three competitions this year alone. He emphasized the need for continued support and collaboration to ensure athletes’ welfare and development. “Some of our athletes are graduates, and we have sponsored three of them for the National Coaching Course in Abuja. With more collaboration, we can build an even stronger team for Edo State,” he added.
Through his Media Officer, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Hon. Enabulele praised Mr. Osayi and the Edo KungFu Association for their dedication to the sport.
“The KungFu team has consistently been one of Edo’s best-performing teams. At the last National Sports Festival in Ogun State, they delivered four gold, six silver, and 12 bronze medals, contributing significantly to Edo’s overall performance,” he said.
He also commended the Chairman for his active involvement, particularly at the Lagos championship in August, noting that his presence inspired the athletes to achieve even greater results. “Chairmen of associations have two major responsibilities: to serve as advisors and sponsors. You have lived up to expectation, investing both your time and resources. It is no surprise the team produced seven gold medals at the event,” he said.
Hon. Enabulele further acknowledged the outstanding medalists: Kelly Alonge (2 gold), Osayande Osatahawen (1 gold), Destiny Dennis Obasi (1 gold), Joshua Emokpae (1 gold, 1 bronze), Onaifo Godwin (1 gold, 1 bronze), Osawoname Ohangbon (1 gold, 1 bronze), Omokaro Iredia (1 silver, 1 bronze), Okpara Lucky (1 silver), Erhunmwonomase Aizeyosabor (2 silver), Erhunmwonomase Ellight (2 silver), Confidence Azuka (1 bronze), and James Joy (1 bronze).
“We share in your vision and will continue to consolidate on athlete welfare. Our main target is to emerge overall winners at the next National Sports Festival in Enugu,” he added.
Hon. Enabulele congratulated the athletes and coaches for their sterling performance at the National Wushu KungFu Championship in Lagos (August 27–30, 2025), where Team Edo secured seven gold, seven silver, and six bronze medals, cementing Edo’s reputation as a powerhouse in Nigerian sports.
