NPFL26: Insurance FC Coach Praises players Despite 3-2 Loss To Enyimba FC
The Head Coach of Bendel Insurance Football Club Greg Ikhenoba has heaped praise on his players for their show of character against former league and CAF champions Enyimba FC on Sunday despite their 3-2 loss in the match Day 5 of the Nigeria Premier Football League in Aba.
The Benin Arsenals' tactician said he was impressed with the performance of the players who rose to the occasion in Aba, forcing the hosts to labour hard for the victory.
" I must commend our boys for their hard work and strong character against the People's elephant in front of their home fans and Proprietor. For Enyimba FC to come from behind twice trailing us means the boys played with determination and it also showed that Enyimba FC is very good. They are also big side with huge achievements and records.
" We will go back home and continue to work on our grey areas ahead of our next match. Like I have said before,we have a young team and remain in progress. I'm confident that we will get better as we continue to work hard and better results are ahead of us".
Enyimba International FC on Sunday came from behind twice to equalise before securing a 3-2 victory over Bendel Insurance of Benin in the NPFL Matchday Five clash in Aba with the Abia state Governor Alex Otti at the Enyimba International stadium throughout the duration of the game.
Chinedu Nwosu opened scoring for Bendel Insurance in the third minute with a header connecting the well taken corner kick by Adewale Adebayo before Joseph Abiodun restored parity for Enyimba FC in the 19th minute to make it 1-1.
The Benin Arsenals on resumption of the second half continued to dazzle, putting the host under pressure after taking the lead again in the 60th minute when Wisdom Udom finished off Koyade Oke spot kick in a swift reaction to Enyimba goalkeeper’s initial save from the penalty kick.
Enyimba came from behind for the second time to equalise again in the 66th minute through Kalu Nweke’s spot kick as the battle raged. Michael Chidera scored the decisive winner in the 70th minute following Insurance defensive blunder.
Also speaking during the post match interview Enyimba coach Stanley Eguma described the win as sweet, especially against a strong traditional side Bendel Insurance.
“Matches between Enyimba and Bendel Insurance are always tense. As traditional teams, the contest is always tough. It was a scary game but we triumphed,” Eguma said.
He praised his players for showing character, coming back twice to take the lead, and maintaining their unbeaten start to the league campaign.
The 3-2 loss pushed Bendel Insurance a step down the ladder to 15th in the table with five points after five games.
Insurance will be having two home games next with Bayelsa Utd and Nasarawa utd in the Match Day 6 and 7.
