Book Launch: Chief Igbe Calls For Reading Culture For  Historical Fact

The Iyase of Benin Kingdom, Chief Sam Igbe has urged parent and guidance to cultivate reading habit on historical books so that the knowledge can be pass to the new generation.

He said it is when we read books that we will be able to pass the knowledge to our children.

Chief Igbe who is an author of several books made the assertion in a book launch entitled:" The History of An African Community ( Ikhonmoto) -The History of Onicha-Olona Kingdom," written by Prince Ephraim Nwabuokei, said if the old men are not reading, the young men should be happy to read books.



Chief Igbe, the Chairman of the occasion said," I am glad that the author has written a book. I like reading and writing books. It looks as if the author has read some of my books. I have read some of the history of his forefathers. 

,"I want to read more and am sure when he gets me one is going to be a rare book of his people. I have read some of them, and I will like to read more of them."

He commended the author for going down memory lane to write the historical book that talk about the details of the Benin Kingdom.

Given a broad view of the book, the book reviewer, who is a lecturer in International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), Tony Abolo, described the book as a well researched, that contained 399 pages book.  


Abolo also went down history to narrate the fact that how other Eastern locations was trace down their ascentral rites to the Benin Kingdom.

He said even the cultural norms where no left out which Onicha-Olona Kingdom copied from the Benin Kingdom.



Stating what prompted him to write the book, the author Prince Ephraim Nwabuokei, said our history has been lost because people are not be told about them. He disclosed that for that reason some people had gone to create new history that would suit their own purpose and narrative.

Prince  Nwabuokei, buttressed that, it is as a result of the knowledge he gathered by reading historical books that make him who was raised and groom in palace to write the book. 

" I stand here today to welcome you all, to this occasion first and to era of exposure of hidden truth, that many had wanted to be silenced and kept unknown.

" There is a reason of the beginning of the book that I wrote," In the face of the institutionalized falsehood, the emergence of a truth is often perceived as rebellion. But, the righteous and upright man will defy institutionalized falsehood and speak the truth no matter what, even in the face of danger."

" There are be so much of bastardization and modification or revision of our ancient histories.
Some as well of our histories have been lost because people have not been told about them. For that reason, some people have go on to create new history that would suit their own purpose and narrative," he stressed .

He thanked Chief Sam Igbe for coming to chair and grace his book launch and all those that came to the event.

More so, the climax of the programme witnessed the launched of the book by Chief Sam Igbe, while others now follow suit in the launching.
