By Editor
A Federal High Court sitting in Benin City on Monday adjourned to 23 February 2026 the cyberstalking case involving a four-count charge of cybercrime and obstruction of the course of justice against a former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Benin Branch, Mr Ede Asenoguan.
The case, which also involves one Jessica Iguodala, currently at large, is contained in a charge sheet marked FHC/B/121C, sighted by journalists in Benin City.
The prosecution alleged that the defendants, in March 2025, intentionally transmitted, or caused to be transmitted, communication through a computer system, particularly social media, containing allegations that harmed the reputation of Mr Uyi Oloton.
The alleged offence is said to be punishable under Section 24(2)(c) and 27(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act
It was further alleged that the former Edo NBA Chairman, on March 11, 2023, conspired to obstruct, prevent, pervert or defeat the course of justice by taking Jessica Iguodala on police administrative bail and subsequently failing or refusing to produce her.
This action, according to the prosecution, stalled her trial at the Federal High Court and constitutes an offence punishable under Section 126(1) of the Criminal Code Act.
When the case was mentioned, Mr Olayinwola Afolabi, SAN, who appeared alongside M. I. Okeke Esq for the nominal complainant, Mr Uyi Oloton, informed the court that members of the legal community had intervened in the matter.
He therefore applied for an adjournment.
The presiding judge, Justice B. O. Quadri, granted the application and consequently adjourned the case to 23 February 2026 for report on the intervention.
Asenoguan, the defendant and his counsel, F. E. Esegine Esq, with Adesuwa Ediae Esq. were present in court
