Edo Govt Constructing Over 250 KM Of Roads Across State ---Akhabue

Edo State Commissioner of Works, Hon. Felix Akhabue, has posited that at present Edo State government is constructing over 250 kilometres of roads across the state.

Akhabue made the statements during the inspection tour of all government road projects in Edo South Senatorial District in the state.

He disclosed that, more roads are going to be captured in the next few months, and added that those roads are done with quality materials.

"As at today, the state government is constructing over 250 kilometres of roads across the state. And more projects are still coming and and more roads are going to be captured in the next few months.

Speaking on how contractors are selected to carry out the project, Hon Felix Akhabue, said it is a competitive bidding, that contractors bid for the job.

He asserted," Well is a competitive bidding and contractors bid for the job. We ensure that before we award contract to any construction company we do pre-qualification assessment to be sure that the contractors have the competence and capacity to do the job.

" I am sure that where you are now that you are convinced that CCECC company is not a small company. For their past record you know what they are capable of doing. I am sure from where we are coming from too where you saw SETRACO also working.

" I am sure you know the capacity of SETRACO. You also saw where Heartland Nigeria limited where working. For me, we ensure that we selected contractors capable of doing good job, have track records and we on our part as Ministry, we have qualified engineers, who are experienced.

" They ensure that the construction companies keep to specifications.
 So we don't compromise that on daily basis they are in the sites, and ensure that jobs are done according to the specifications."

However, some of the road sites visited are; Flyover Bridge at Ramat Park, newly constructing Flyover Bridge at Adesuwa junction, 23. 5 kilometres road, from 19 Street to Evbhotobu road, construction and erosion control works of Catholic Charismatic road, off Ekehuan road, 12.6 kilometres road Upper Ekehuan road,Oghede in Benin city.

Other include; underground gully erosion control at Benin Technical school, Utteh construction Palace road, off Upper Mission Extension, 7.5 kilometres Okhumnwun road, Benin Technical and 7 adjoining roads, Ozakpolor,Edugu and others roads in Edo South.


Some of the projects nearing completion that were inspected included the construction of Technical College Road with adjoining roads, erosion control with underground drainage; construction of Evbuotubu Road; construction of the 7 km Okhunmwun Road by Hartland Construction Company; reconstruction of the 12.6 km Upper Ekehuan Road (Urhuokhokho to Ugbineh community) by Hartland Construction Company and the construction and erosion control works of the 1.4km Catholic Charismatic Renewal Road.

Others were the Adesuwa-Sapele Road Flyover by Setraco; Ramat Park Flyover, flood control, gully reclamation and construction of surface and underground drain through Obaseki Street through Ikpoba River by CCECC Nig. Limited which is 2.48km; construction of the 10.52km Ekiuwa-University of Benin Road by Hartland and the construction of the 4.2km Palace Road by Mutual Commitment Company (MCC). Ltd.

Speaking to journalists on the level of work in Adesuwa junction Sapele Road Flyover construction site, Engr. Lorenzin Maurizio of Setraco, assured the Commissioner that the work is going on according to specifications.


Engr. Jorenzin Maurizio, said at the level they are now is to prepare the ground the way it would enable them to lay the concrete before they will start the elevation.

Engr Maurizio also talked about how they have been managing and controlling the traffic while the work is going on. He said the traffic jam lock is occasionally, but they use local security personnel to control the traffic when major work is going on.
