Team Edo continued their dominance at the South South U-17 Cricket Qualifier, emerging as overall champions in both the male and female categories, a feat that drew high praise from the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele.

Reacting to the double gold triumph through his Media aide, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Enabulele described the performance as a clear reflection of strategic investment in grassroots sports development and the resilience of Edo’s young athletes.

“I am extremely proud of these young champions,” Enabulele stated. “To conquer both the male and female categories at a regional qualifier speaks volumes about our structure, preparation, and the fighting spirit that defines Edo athletes", Enabulele stated.

He further commended the coaching crew and technical officials for their discipline and tactical excellence, noting that their dedication continues to position Edo as a powerhouse in emerging sports like Nigeria Cricket Federation-sanctioned competitions.

“Our vision has always been clear, to build from the grassroots and create sustainable pathways for talent discovery and development. What we are witnessing today is the product of deliberate planning, strong mentorship, and unwavering support from Governor Monday Okpebholo,” he added.

Enabulele particularly applauded the girls’ team for their commanding 66-run victory over Akwa Ibom, describing the performance of Rejoice Emonena as “exceptional and inspiring for the next generation of female cricketers in Edo State.”

He also praised the boys’ team for their resilience against Delta State, highlighting Miracle Emonena’s outstanding bowling figures as “a masterclass in focus, composure, and competitive excellence.”

“This achievement is not just about medals,” Enabulele emphasized. “It is about building confidence in our young athletes and proving that Edo State remains a fertile ground for sporting greatness.”

He assured that the Commission would continue to provide the enabling environment, facilities, and technical backing required to sustain Edo’s dominance in age-grade competitions across the South South region and beyond.

“With this double gold success, Team Edo has once again reaffirmed our state’s reputation as a breeding ground for champions,” he concluded.
