The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Edo State Chapter, has commended the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, for what it described as the outstanding performance of Team Edo at the recently concluded Niger Delta Games held in Benin City, where the host state emerged overall champion.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of SWAN Edo State Chapter, Comrade Kehinde Osagiede, and the Secretary, Comrade Idahosa Moses, the association described the victory as a major milestone for Edo sports and a reflection of Enabulele’s visionary leadership.

According to the statement, the triumph underscores the impact of strategic planning and the renewed commitment to sports development since Enabulele assumed office as head of the state’s sports commission.

“We, the Executive and members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Edo State Chapter, heartily congratulate the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, on the outstanding performance of Team Edo at the just-concluded Niger Delta Games held in Benin City, where the state emerged overall winner,” the statement partly read.

SWAN noted that the feat marks a historic achievement for Edo State, coming within just 15 months of Enabulele’s leadership and ending a 24-year wait for the state to secure a top finish in a major national sporting competition.

The association further praised his commitment, foresight, and determination, stating that his leadership has revived the morale of athletes and repositioned Edo State as a formidable force in Nigeria’s sporting landscape.

“Under your stewardship, Edo State has witnessed renewed hope, improved athletes’ morale, and a vibrant sporting culture that continues to inspire excellence and competitiveness,” SWAN said, describing Enabulele as a “jinx breaker” whose efforts have restored pride and prestige to the state.

The sports writers also acknowledged his role as a distinguished patron of SWAN Edo State Chapter, noting that his inclusive approach to sports administration has strengthened the relationship between athletes, administrators, and sports journalists.

They added that the success recorded at the second Niger Delta Games reflects the effectiveness of policies and initiatives introduced to promote grassroots sports development and nurture emerging talents across the state.

“As partners in the promotion and development of sports, members of SWAN Edo celebrate this historic triumph alongside Team Edo and remain confident that the landmark victory will inspire even greater achievements,” the statement added.

Reacting to the commendation through his Media Aide, Edoko Wilson Edoko, Enabulele expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of SWAN Edo for recognising the efforts of the sports commission and the achievements of Team Edo.

He said the historic victory after 24 years was the result of the dedication of athletes, coaches, and officials working together to restore Edo State’s pride in sports.

“I am honoured to lead such a dynamic and passionate team committed to returning Edo State to its rightful place in Nigerian sports,” Enabulele said.

He also acknowledged the critical role played by sports journalists in promoting sporting activities and strengthening collaboration among stakeholders in the sector.

“Your dedication to sports journalism strengthens the relationship between athletes, administrators, and the media, which is essential for the holistic development of sports in our region,” he added.

Enabulele, however, stressed that the Niger Delta Games triumph represents only the beginning of a broader vision to reposition Edo State as a leading sporting powerhouse in Nigeria.

He called on stakeholders to continue supporting grassroots sports development and talent discovery to sustain the state’s growing success on the national stage.
