...Laments Abduction Of Woman In Vegetable Market
Iduozee Efe Paul, Benin
Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP), has castigated the Edo state governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo for the incessant kidnapping in the state.
The coalition also lamented about the recent abduction of a woman in vegetable market on June 14, 2026, after kidnappers failed to abduct the man.
This followed a statement issued and titled:"Edo now under siege of kidnappers and criminals, we're tired of lamentation," by Dr. Samson Isibor, the National
Chairman, and Hon. Nkama Waribe,
National Secretary, of CRPP, said despite the 1 billion naira that governor Okpebholo is receiving every month as security vote that crimes and criminality are escalating everyday in Edo state.
According to Dr. Isibor, said because of the continuous crimes and insecurity that have overwhelmed the three senatorial districts, prompted investors to start leaving the state.
"With heavy hearts, the leadership of the Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP), refer to the broad day light kidnapping at the Vegetable Market, on June 14, 2026, where in a woman was forcefully abducted after they failed to take the husband.
"We are alarmed that armed criminals are so daring and emboldened to the point of operating right inside Benin City, the State capital in broad daylight.
"Most embarrassing is the fact that the hoodlums operated unchallenged for close to 30 minutes at a distance of less than 500 meters away from the Government House, and about 50 meters away from Aideyan police division.
"Fear and apprehension have now taken over the entire state, as kidnappers, cultists and armed bandits have ravaged the three senatorial districts, including Esanland, the ancestral home of Governor Okpebholo. Investors are now on the run because of the insecurity in the state.
"The pertinent question being asked now is: What does Governor Monday Okpebholo have to show for the close to ₦1 billion he receives every month as security vote? ," he groaned.
The coalition further regretted that, instead of the governor to look for possible solutions, he is busy campaigning on how he can give 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu.
Coalition equally castigated the governor for wasting the tax payers money on ESSN who are busy extorting money from Edo people instead of being alert in protecting the citizens.
The statement read:" Instead of putting the huge sum of money to work to secure the state, he is busy campaigning for 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu.
"He is doing nothing to protect the lives and properties of the citizens, have suggested to him severally steps to take to reduce the advancing marauders, terrorist into Edo state, but this Governor never listened to us.
" To worsen the situation, operatives of the so-called Edo State Security Network. We are made to believe are paid with tax payers' money and are supposed to be patrolling major cities are busy extorting money from motorists at checkpoints.
" For the uptempt time, we call on Governor Okpebholo to take wake up from his slumber, take proactive steps to check the rising insecurity across the state. We are tired of his lamentation and messages of commiseration to the traumatized families of victims."
In a press release issued by Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, condemned the kidnapping incident
and directed the Edo State Commissioner of Police to immediately commence a swift and coordinated investigation into the incident with a view at securing the safe rescue of the victims and arresting those responsible for the attack.
