CRPP Boss Berates Afegbua For Misinforming Edo People

...Warns Him For Attacking Opposition Parties

Iduozee Efe Paul, Benin

The Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has berated the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua for misinforming Edo people about the recent sad incident that occurred in Children’s Day stampede at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin city, where over 50 students, mostly females, almost lost their lives.

This follows  a statement signed by its National Chairman, Dr. Samson Isibor, and Secretary, Hon. Nkama Waribe, faulted the Commissioner for his inability to defend the governor.

Dr. Isibor posited,"Our attention has been drawn to the vituperation of the Edo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, following our statement that exposed the unfortunate incident that occurred on Wednesday last week at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, where over 50 students, mostly females almost lost their lives after they collapsed in a stampede, and ended up being admitted in the hospital.

"Instead of explaining what actually happened to Edo people, especially the parents of the victims, Afegbua derided us, called us an unregistered party, used several uncivilized words to describe our Chairman.

"Ordinarily, we would not have dignified him with a response, but for the purpose clarification, we will remind him that as the commissioner in charge of information and strategy, he is saddled with the responsibility of informing, educating and enlightening the citizens on the activities of the government he serves. Full stop! Certainly, that does not include abusing the opposition.

"Over time, it has become obvious to everyone that Afegbua makes a bad job of managing his principal. Rather than addressing issues raised about the government he represents at any given opportunity, has vilifies the opposition and deceive the citizens with unintelligible grammars.

" Because of his penchant for grammar, we would have advised him to apply for a teaching job at any of the journalism schools, but we also know that he will not make a good teacher of that noble profession.

"Out of his ignorance, Afegbua could not differentiate between a political parties and pressure groups or civil associations. For the upteenpth time.

"We will educate him. CRPP, like other groups, namely, Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Association of Political Parties (APP), Rainbow Coalition, United Political Parties (UPPG), Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), IPAC, etc, are all Pressure Groups. While some are sponsored by governments, many others, like CRPP, are self-sponsored.

"As a self-sponsored pressure group and voice of the people, CRPP has the mandate to put government at all levels on their to toes in order to deliver dividends of democracy to the people. And if members of CRPP dim it fit to make Dr Isibor their chairman for as long as necessary, how does that affect the work of Afegbua as Information Commissioner? "

The coalition warned the commissioner to focus on providing transparent information to the public and addressing concerns arising from the Children’s Day incident rather than engaging in personal attacks.

The coalition cautioned the Commissioner consistent attacks on opposition groups and critics could deepen public dissatisfaction and expose the government to greater scrutiny over issues affecting the welfare of Edo people.

"We must remind Prince Afegbua that those who live in glass houses must refrain from throwing stones indiscriminately, lest they inadvertently destroy their own houses.

"The more he keeps attacking the opposition unprovoked, the more he is unwittingly exposing his government to ridicule and negative criticism from the public over its failure to meet the people's aspirations," Dr. Isibor lamented.
