Edo Central Senator, Ikpea Preaches Peace, Unity On Democracy Day

THE Senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District, Joseph Ikpea has called for peace, unity and patriotism as Nigeria marks 27 years of uninterrupted civilian rule.

Ikpea in a statement made available to journalists in Benin City also called for support and collaboration with the federal government and other state governments in their efforts to check insecurity in the country.

Besides, the senator particularly called on the people of Edo Central to take security as their own and compliment what the government is doing.

He celebrated late Chief MKO Abiola the winner of the June 12 1993 presidential election which was annulled that led to his incarceration and death in detention.

On the coming 2027 general elections, Senator Ikpea said there was need to consolidate on the pro-people interventions of Governor   Monday Okpebholo who was the senator representing the district before he became the governor of the State.

He said "Today is a day that we cannot joke with in the democratic history of Nigeria. We must work together to sustain the democracy that people like Chief MKO Abiola, his late wife, Kudirat and several other people died for. Several others incapacitated for life.

"Nigeria is going through trying times in the area of security but it is obvious that the federal government, the state under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo are doing so much to check insecurity, these efforts should be supported by all of us."

Gunmen Abducts 18 Passengers  In Benin-Auchi Highway, 16 Rescued Iduozee Efe Paul, Benin  Wonder they say shall not cease, as at least 18 passengers travelling on the Benin-Auchi highway in Edo State were abducted by gunmen on Friday, 5th 2025. The victims were said to be heading to Abuja in a newly launched Edo Line bus when armed men stopped the vehicle and forced them into the bush. Police operatives later arrived at the scene after the attack. A video from the incident, which has gone viral on social media, showed vehicles lined up on both sides of the highway as panic spread among commuters. Gabriel Dunia has described as false a report which quoted him as blaming Edo State Government for not doing enough to effect the release of the abducted priest, Rev. Philip Ekweli and a seminarian, Andrew Peter, 21, who was reportedly murdered.
