On behalf of the Executive Council and entire membership of the Sports Writers' Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Edo State Chapter, we extend our warmest congratulations to the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. SWAN, the management, coaching crew, players, and supporters of Edo Queens Football Club on their remarkable emergence as champions of the 2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.

This outstanding achievement represents yet another glorious chapter in the history of the club, coming after its landmark title success in 2024. It is a fitting reward for the team's resilience, discipline, hard work, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

Your journey to the championship crown was nothing short of inspirational. After suffering defeat in the opening match of the Super Six, the team displayed exceptional character and determination, bouncing back with impressive performances to reclaim the title.

Such a feat exemplifies the true spirit of champions and serves as a powerful reminder that perseverance, self-belief, and dedication can overcome adversity.

This victory further underscores the importance of visionary leadership, sound management, effective organisation, and sustained investment in sports development. Edo Queens have once again proven that, with the right support structure, Nigerian clubs can achieve greatness and inspire future generations of athletes.

The triumph has brought immense pride and joy to the people of Edo State across Edo South, Edo Central, and Edo North Senatorial Districts, as well as countless supporters in the diaspora who have continued to follow the club's progress with passion and admiration.

We commend the management of the club, the technical crew, the backroom staff, and the Edo State Sports Commission under the leadership of our amiable Patron, Hon. Desmond Amadin Enabulele, for their unwavering dedication to the growth and success of women's football in the state.

Gunmen Abducts 18 Passengers  In Benin-Auchi Highway, 16 Rescued Iduozee Efe Paul, Benin  Wonder they say shall not cease, as at least 18 passengers travelling on the Benin-Auchi highway in Edo State were abducted by gunmen on Friday, 5th 2025. The victims were said to be heading to Abuja in a newly launched Edo Line bus when armed men stopped the vehicle and forced them into the bush. Police operatives later arrived at the scene after the attack. A video from the incident, which has gone viral on social media, showed vehicles lined up on both sides of the highway as panic spread among commuters. Confirming the incident on Saturday, Edo State police spokesperson, Moses Iyamu, said 16 of the kidnapped passengers had been rescued. “Sixteen of these passengers have been rescued safely while the rescue operation by Edo State Police in synergy with vigilantes and hunters continues,” Iyamu said. Bishop Of Auchi, Dunia Blames Edo Police For Death Of Seminarian  By Editor  The Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev. Gabriel Dunia has described as false a report which quoted him as blaming Edo State Government for not doing enough to effect the release of the abducted priest, Rev. Philip Ekweli and a seminarian, Andrew Peter, 21, who was reportedly murdered. The priest was released at about 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2025, close to Amughe village, a few kilometres from Okpekpe town, North Ibie in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, ending ten days of captivity in the hands of his abductors.
