Edo Queens Football Club have been crowned champions of the 2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six Finals after securing a hard-fought goalless draw against defending champions Bayelsa Queens in the decisive Matchday 5 fixture on Sunday.
The highly anticipated encounter, which lived up to its billing as a title decider, was played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where the 2024 champions demonstrated resilience, composure, and tactical discipline to hold their opponents and seal their championship triumph.
The result confirmed Edo Queens as the best-performing side in the Super Six playoffs, capping an impressive campaign defined by determination, teamwork, and a never-say-die attitude under head coach Moses Aduku.
Aduku’s achievement also marked another milestone in his managerial career, as he secured his second NWFL title in three years with Edo Queens and his third league championship overall.
Following the historic achievement, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, dedicated the triumph to Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his unwavering support and commitment to sports development in the state.
Enabulele praised the players and technical crew for their outstanding performance throughout the competition, describing the victory as a reward for hard work, discipline, and belief.
He noted that the team’s ability to recover from an opening defeat against Nasarawa Amazons showed the true character and fighting spirit of Edo Queens.
"This victory belongs to everyone who believes in the Edo Queens project. The girls have shown tremendous commitment, discipline, and hunger for success. They fought for every ball, stayed focused, and proved that with determination and the right support, they can overcome any challenge," Enabulele said.
"I am particularly proud of how the team responded after the first game. They did not lose confidence; instead, they regrouped, worked harder, and produced outstanding performances that eventually made them champions. This is a team with character, and they deserve every honour that comes with this achievement," he added.
The Sports Commission Executive Chairman also commended Coach Moses Aduku and his technical crew for their tactical approach and ability to inspire the players throughout the Super Six campaign.
"The coaches have done an excellent job. They built a team that believes in itself and represents the values of Edo State — resilience, excellence, and unity. This title is a reward for the collective efforts of the players, coaches, management, and everyone who supported the team," Enabulele stated.
He further appreciated Governor Okpebholo for creating an enabling environment for sports to thrive, assuring that the administration remains committed to sustaining the growth of sports and supporting Edo athletes to achieve greater heights.
