...Inducts Engineers Into Association, Gives An Awards To Deserving Engineers

The National President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, has extolled the exemplary attributes and qualities of late Engr. (Chef) Geoffrey Osatohanmwan Aiwerioba for the great legacy he had left on ground.


Engr. Rabiu made the statements at the 9th public lecture series organized for the late Engr. Geoffrey Aiwerioba, with the theme:" Strengthening Infrastructure Delivery Through Engineering Governance in Edo State," Benin city, said, it is a great building of interest and commitment as engineers to contribute to the development of Nigeria.

He asserted that,the engineers are committed to the vision of the project of their society and thanked the Edo state governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo for his infrastructural development in Edo state.


"It is a great building of interest and our commitment as engineers to the development of our country. I feel particularly delighted to see the launch tomorrow for this event today. And of course, the engineers are committed to the vision of the project of our society.

"The physical completion of projects However, the missing link has often been engineering governance which can fail the systems, processes, and ethical frameworks that ensure that infrastructure is not only due that is obtained cost effective safe and keep for all purpose.

"I do not know a lot of details about the government structure in the state both political and governing governments. But watching from the distance I know that the current administration has shown the commendable drive for the renewal and structural transformation.

"This means the professionalism, accountability, maintenance culture, policy integration have to be by the professionalism in the delivery of projects.Certified engineers should as a matter of policy be engaged from project inception," Engr. Rabiu added.

Delivering the Keynote presentation, Special Adviser to the Governor, Project Implementation and Monitoring Department (PIMD),  Office of the Governor, Edo state, Engr. (Mrs.) Phoebe Williams Bello Ufuoma, said, engineers should promote continuous professional development.

She posited that, as special adviser to the governor that, what they are trying to do in Edo state is to create out cities in every communities, added that, a good projects designed bring proper funding.

Engr. Ufuoma urged engineers to embrace technology,innovation and told them to shape the society through their decision. She said, their aims is to strengthen engineering governance through a collaborative partnerships with the state government.

"  The essence of the flyovers is to remove gridlock from that location , and you can see that the flyovers project take more than two years, but in Edo state the completion of the flyover take less than one year and seven months. Additional roads had been done up to completion stage.

"All the underground cover had  been done,  you can see that when will go for monitoring tour with the governor, you see the people happy. The flood control had been done, so is beyond the flyovers. The 2.2 kilometres of the underground drainage, 3.5 kilometres of the surface drainage which is going to capture the flood problem in those areas," Ufuoma said.


Speaking about the good of her father, the daughter of late Engr Geoffrey Osatohanmwan Aiwerioba, Kindade Beatrice Aiwerioba, said she so happy that the Engineers took out their time to sponsor the event and described the occasion as a wonderful one.

Beatrice Aiwerioba, explained that, " I am so happy that the Engineers took out their time to sponsor this event. My daddy had really made remarkable remarks in the live of Engineers. He the first President of Nigerian Society of Engineers. He brought the Engineers together as one family. Since then, they have been going accordingly.

" I want to thank everyone for making this event possible, it has not been easy , but this is the 9th public lecture series of my late father. This year will make it 12 years since he died, but his name and legacy will go far. I want to thank everyone for their presence," she stated.

In her address, the Benin Branch Chairman of NSE, Engr. Tina M. Oigiagbe, said strengthening infrastructure delivery through engineering governance in Edo state is with a focus on enhancing project implementation, monitoring, accountability and sustainability in infrastructure development.

She said the theme of the event is vital as they seek practical solutions to accelerate economic growth and improve the quality of life of their people through sound engineering governance.

The 9th public lecture series of Engr Geoffrey Osatohanmwan Aiwerioba also witnessed the giving of an award to engineers who have distinguished themselves in the profession.

Edo state governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo and the National President of Nigerian Society of Engineers Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu were given an awards.

The NSE Benin branch, continued its commitment to educational development and youth empowerment through the conduct of the 4th NSE Benin branch scholarship programme for public secondary school students within Benin metropolis.


The programme is designed to identify and reward academically gifted indigent students, while stimulating interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Through scholarships mentorship opportunities, and public recognition. The initiative seeks to nurture future engineers, innovators and leaders.

It was gathered that 14 public secondary schools partaked in the exercise, with five students nominated by each school. The examination consisted of questions in English Language and STEM-related subjects.

Following the scholarship examination, the following students emerged as the overall best performing candidates; joint 1st Balogun Ajisola Divine, from Ogbe Secondary school, scored 85 point, got cash prize of ₦90,000, joint 1st Omosefe Osayemewenere, Ogbe Secondary school, scored 85 point, got cash prize of ₦90,000, for the third position, Abhumen Ofure, Ogbe Secondary school, scored 75 point, got cash prize of ₦70,000 and the 4th position, Eze Joseph from Oba Akenzua II, Secondary school, scored 51 point, got cash prize of ₦50,000.
