The National President, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, has commended Governor Bala Mohammed for awarding the contract for the reconstruction of the NUJ Bauchi State Council Secretariat.



Comrade  Yahya made the commendation this Friday while speaking to journalists after inspecting the ongoing construction of the secretariat accompanied by the former National Secretary Shuaibu Usman Leman, General Manager, Yobe Television Authority, Alhaji Yusuf Isa and other union leaders from the NorthEast Zone.

Yahya said the project as long overdue, recalling that the governor made the promise and that its execution is now visible on site.

The President underscores the importance of having a journalist as governor of Bauchi State who understands the challenges journalists are facing and taking concrete steps to address them squarely.

He urged NUJ members to use the opportunity to reposition the profession by generating ideas that will change the narrative of journalism practice in the country.

Yahya used the medium to charge journalists to report issues that concern people and advocate for welfare, health insurance and improved remuneration for journalists in Nigeria.

He  thanked Governor Bala Mohammed for mobilizing contractors to site, noting that he was informed work has continued without delay since it began and expressed optimism that the completed NUJ secretariat will positively impact the lives of journalists in the state.

Gunmen Abducts 18 Passengers  In Benin-Auchi Highway, 16 Rescued Iduozee Efe Paul, Benin  Wonder they say shall not cease, as at least 18 passengers travelling on the Benin-Auchi highway in Edo State were abducted by gunmen on Friday, 5th 2025. The victims were said to be heading to Abuja in a newly launched Edo Line bus when armed men stopped the vehicle and forced them into the bush. Police operatives later arrived at the scene after the attack. A video from the incident, which has gone viral on social media, showed vehicles lined up on both sides of the highway as panic spread among commuters. Gabriel Dunia has described as false a report which quoted him as blaming Edo State Government for not doing enough to effect the release of the abducted priest, Rev.
