Urhonigbe Site, August 13, 2026 — Rubber Estates Nigeria Limited (RENL) has used its 2026 Health, Safety, Environment and Ethics (HSE/Ethics) Day celebration at the Urhonigbe Site to reinforce the importance of safety consciousness, ethical conduct and mutual respect in the workplace.



The celebration organized under the theme: “Safety First, Integrity Always,” provided an avenue for employees to reflect on their individual and collective responsibilities towards creating a safer, more ethical and inclusive working environment.


The Managing Director of RENL, Olivier Odoukou, was represented at the Urhonigbe Site by the Deputy Technical Manager, Philip Oladele, who delivered the Managing Director’s message to employees and other participants at the event.


In the address, Odoukou described safety as more than a set of rules or procedures, stressing that it should be embedded in the daily behaviour and decisions of every employee. He encouraged workers to remain vigilant, identify potential hazards and take appropriate action to prevent incidents before they occur.

The Managing Director also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to providing employees with the necessary training, personal protective equipment and safe working systems to enable them to perform their duties effectively while protecting their health and wellbeing.


He further extended the call for safety beyond the immediate workplace, noting that RENL’s operations can impact dependents, families and surrounding communities. 

"Employees were therefore encouraged to demonstrate responsible behaviour and consider the consequences of their actions both within the workplace and in their communities.


"A major feature of the celebration was a series of presentations and interactive discussions designed to broaden employees’ understanding of HSE and ethics. 

"Sessions on gender equality and workplace inclusion added another important dimension to the programme, emphasizing fairness, equal opportunities, mutual respect and the need to maintain a work environment free from discrimination and harassment," he added.


Also, participants were also reminded that integrity is demonstrated through everyday actions, including honesty, accountability, responsible decision-making and the courage to speak up when unsafe or unethical practices are observed.


The Urhonigbe HSE/Ethics Day celebration therefore served as a strong reminder that achieving operational excellence requires more than productivity. It requires a workforce committed to protecting lives, respecting others and doing the right thing at all times.


Through the celebration, RENL reaffirmed its determination to make safety, integrity, accountability, equality and respect enduring values across its operations.
