Nigeria Women Football League Champions Edo Queens FC ,today defeated their Ivorian counterparts Asec Mimosas 3-1 in their second match of the 2026 CAF Champions League qualifiers to secure the quarter finals .
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi scored the first goal in the 23rd minute of the game to boost the confidence of her side.
Doosuur Atume increased the tally in the 43rd minute to help Edo Queens go into the halftime break with 2-0 advantage over the Code D'voire champions.
ASEC Mimosas fought back in the second half and pulled a goal back to reduce the deficit, thereby putting pressure on Edo Queens.
Edo Queens however remained composed and determined as Oluebube Umajiaku sealed the victory in the 89th minute when she found the back of the net to make it 3-1 at full time.
The emphatic victory ensured Edo Queens’ qualification for the semifinals of the tournament with a game to spare in group B
Edo Queens began the WAFU-B qualifying campaign on Monday with 7-0 thrashing of AS Garde Nationale of Niger Republic. They top the group with six points and 10 goals.
The Nigerians now Ampem Darkoa Ladies of Ghana as the last opponents in group B.
In a post match interview,the stand-in technical manager of Edo Queens Kennedy Boboye commended his team for maintaining their composure throughout the game.
" I'm happy that our girls stood their ground. We played against a good side with quality today but thank God we were able to take our chances when they came..
Congratulations to our girls they made us proud and we hope to achieve our purpose of coming to this tournament in Burkina Faso. We promised our people five over five before we left Benin City." He enthused.
