The Executive Director, DeeMoat of Hub, Rev. David Ugolor has asserted that, successful nations across the world have able to attained adequate advancement because of the importance they placed on reading culture.
Ugolor added that, ideas, innovation and creativity can be acquired through constant reading of books. He said some of the countries he visited during his traveling developed technologically as a result of the respect they have for book.
He made the statement when given his remarks in a book launch title: The Challenger, the Disruptive Nigerian Entrepreners Creating A Billion Naira Company, Benin city, Edo state.
In her address, the Programme Lead of DeeMoat Books & Ideas, Onome Tovia Ugolor (Esq), posited that the Books & Ideas concept was established to bring books, authors and ideas into direct conversation with the general public.
Ugolor Esq, said it is also an avenue for creating opportunities for readers and to engage with writers which reflected on issues raised in books.
She said the hub was conceived as a platform for “learning, innovation, enterprise, creativity and meaningful engagement,” with specific attention to the young people.
She averred,“DeeMoat Hub was born from a simple but powerful conviction: that communities grow when people have access to knowledge, opportunities and spaces where ideas can be freely exchanged.
" The Books & Ideas programme represented an important expression of the hub’s broader vision, adding that it would provide an inclusive platform for authors to interact with readers, inspire public dialogue and take ideas beyond the printed page into society."
In an interview with the author, The Challengers, Eghosa Imasuen said the book was an attempt to tell a true story about entrepreneurs he admired and the emergence of a business culture among his generation.
Imasuen's described the work as narrative non-fiction, explaining that he wanted to document how a group of entrepreneurs built a business and demonstrated principles that are now being replicated by newer generations of businesses, including fintech companies.
“First, we fought for freedom. Then we fought for democracy. Now, we are fighting for economic freedom,” he said, adding that the entrepreneurs featured in the book represented people playing a role in that process.
Imasuen's disclosed that the book was not designed as a conventional business guide offering prescribed lessons or formulas for making money, but as a true story intended to allow readers to observe, reflect and draw their own lessons from the experiences of its subjects.
Commenting on the book, an environmentalist, Dr. Godwin Uyi Ojo, said the Nigeria society at present is doom as a result of lack of reading culture. He called for constant promotion of reading culture in Nigeria, and thanked DeeMoat hub for organising the event.
Ojo's said everyone has a story to tell, but not everyone can write a story and encourage young authors to keep on writing that there are people to read the book. He said the book contains a vital ideas, which the author of the book is try to explain which contains life experiences.
Edo State Deputy Governor, represented at the event, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, described the idea is a hub for innovation, knowledge acquisition and knowledge transfer.
Idahosa represented by Hon. Pius Alile, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor posited that knowledge should not merely be acquired for its own sake but should translate into productivity, innovation and societal development.
However, the climax of the occasion witnessed the launch of the book by some of the personalities that grace the event.
