...As Secretary To CTC Said Their Claims Was Not True
Iduozee Efe Paul, Benin
Barely five months after the conduct of Edo state local government election, four chairmanship candidates of the Labour Party, namely Kennedy Oriakhi (Egor), Mashodo Eghaghe (Ikpoba Okha), Oshobor Joachim (Etsako East) and Daniel Onaghise Ero (Oredo) in the September 2, 2023 Edo State Local Government Council election, have decried their inability to get hold on the Certified True Copy (CTC) from the Election Petition Tribunal to enable them file for an appeal.
The candidates expressed their concerns, while addressing Journalists in NUJ Secretariat in Benin City, Edo state
The affected candidates said that they are aware that everything about elections and the court is time bound adding that, they needed the CTC to enable them pursue their case at the upper court.
They alleged that the delay in making the CTC available to them by the court is a calculated attempt by unknown persons, and the court to thwart their chance of reclaiming their mandate as the said election was highly marred by irregularities.
They therefore appealed to the Election Petition Tribunal to expedite action and make the CTC available to them on time to enable them file for an appeal.
When contacted, the Secretary, Edo State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal, Emmanuel Uwagboe, said that their claim was not true.
Uwagboe said the court is working assidiously to make the CTC available to them adding that by middle of next week, it will be made available to them to enable them pursue their case.
